Again balloons would be sent from Ratmalana while many balloons would come down at many other places - Harin

With the aim of obtaining speedy internet facilities the Google institution had released the
"google loon" balloon which has landed  last night at the Gampola area Pupuressa tea estate with the permission of the civil aviation department authorities. This had been disclosed by the Minister of Telecommunication and digital infrastructure Harin Fernando.

The media reports that have been published as the balloon has fallen down is refuted by the Minister Harin Fernando. He had added that if the balloon fell down it would have broken into pieces. It had been brought down by reducing the air within gradually and systematically.

He had added that it cannot be landed like an aircraft. It could have fallen on to a tree or on to any other surface. But it had been landed on to an estate where no human being was without causing any damage to anyone. The google company had selected this harmless place. At the time it landed it had been functioning.

The engineers of the google company are hoping to land such balloons in the Ratmalana area once more. What is been experimented is to have the "google loon" to be airborne always. In the mean time a number of other balloons would be landing and taking off would be seen as a common occurrence the minister had added.

Schoolboy rejected by school over HIV suspicion

Kuliyapitiya child minus school ....

over suspicion of HIV infection!

The term HIV has been subjected to misinterpretation among the public in certain areas in Sri Lanka. An unfortunate incident is heard from Kuliyapitiya of a case of a child being deprived of a school for this very reason. This story was revealed for the first time when a mother of two children
living in a village a short distance beyond Kuliyapitiya town had come with her 6 year old son and had staged a protest, seated in front of the gate of Kuliyapitiya Education office.

Three months before this a rumour had spread around that her husband passed away as a result of having suffered from AIDS. She says that because of this rumour she had to face humiliation by society in this manner. "A false rumour circulated around the village that my husband died after suffering from AIDS. With that news the people in the village 'cornered' us. Even at the Montessori this child was attending, these misgivings were to be seen. Later the teacher at the Montessori mediated in this matter and spoke to the MOH office and took steps to check blood samples of my son. What is stated very  clearly in the child's blood report is that the child is not HIV infected. That was not successful enough to put a stop to this story spreading around or to stop this rumour going round. When I tried to get admission for my child after the Montessori, none of those schools were willing to get him admitted. Like this I went to about 10 schools. It was when I could do nothing more that I came to Kuliyapitiya Zonal office. Whenever I stepped into the Zonal office I was found fault with ... and was insulted".

What Saman Wijeysekera the Deputy Zonal Director of the Kuliyapitiya Zonal Education office says is that because of the story that is going round in society that this child is HIV infected, the child cannot be found a school in the zone. The solution he brings forward is for the child to be admitted to some other school outside the Kuliyapitiya Education Zone.

The mother of the child says that she has no financial strength to rent out a house away from the house where she now resides and to proceed with the child's educational activities while simultaneously attending to other expenses. The poverty-stricken existence of this family is portrayed by the fact that they have been called upon to eke out their living in a house which is half-constructed with bricks and is thatched with coconut leaves and the house which is still not plastered either; which itself provides ample evidence of their present financial plight.

Dr. N.R. Amarajeewa, Chief of the Sexual Diseases Unit of Puttalam District mentions the idea that since it is an HIV Virus just as much it cannot spread across the air, it does not infect a human being simply by normal confrontations, through touch or by intermingling at the place of work, school or village. He further points out that the possibility of this virus spreading towards another person could be assumed in cases when there is unsafe sexual relationships, blood transfusion, using injection needles not sterilized and when a baby is breast fed by a mother who is infected.

Malaka Silva begs in Court to attend night clubs

"Ane ....I want to go to night clubs!"

-- Malaka murmurs in Courts

The Court orders issued against highly unpopular Malaka Silva, son of former Minister Mervin Silva to refrain from visiting night clubs because of his disgusting behaviour, is still in force. Malaka who appeared for a Court session yesterday had pleaded for the third
time asking that the said ban enforced on him be withdrawn.

The suspect Malaka Silva had said that because of this ban imposed on him by Courts, he is unable to attend various celebrations and party functions of his friends which are held at night clubs in the city of Colombo and as a consequence he is spending his life in great inconvenience. "Ane .... give me permission to go to night clubs!" he had pleadingly murmured in Courts. However, Colombo Additional Magistrate, Mr. Nishantha Peiris has decided not to grant anymore permission to his continuous request of permission to attend night clubs. In fact, the taboo enforced on the suspect was further extended by Magistrate Mr. Nishantha Peiris until next 25th August.

This case was heard on a complaint made by Mr. James Francis Cashley to the Crime Unit of Colombo to the effect that the suspect had assaulted him and his lover, causing injuries on November 01, 2014 at Rhythm and Blue Night Club at Bambalapitiya.  The other 7 suspects taken into custody in relation to this complaint have been already released on bail.

The Additional Magistrate who went on to explain the reason for rejecting the continuous request made by Malaka Silva and for imposing such a condition pertaining to bail on the suspect said that it was not for the purpose of limiting his freedom but that if a blunder of a previous nature happens to be repeated when the suspect is released under bail, it could result in prejudiced circumstances. At this point though attorneys-at-law appearing on behalf of the suspect suggested a settlement, Attorney-at-Law Mr. Shavendra Rodrigo appearing on behalf of the prejudiced party, the foreign couple, explaining matters said that he is not aware of such a settlement.

Additional Magistrate Mr. Nishantha Peiris who instructed that legal advice be sought in connection with this incident from the Attorney General, ordered that the case be postponed until 25th August for the next hearing.
