Murali responds to allegation pf 'Traitor'
World-renown Sri Lankan cricketer Mutthah Muralithan who functioned as the coach for the Australian Cricket Team some days back has left that position.
What he says is that he had signed the agreement only for a period of 10 days and that the said period of 10 days
had elapsed yesterday. Whatever it is Australian authorities have requested him to continue coaching until the tournament is over; but he has not acceded to the request. Participating at a BBC programme yesterday he had given a video statement saying that one of the reasons for such a decision was his dislike to be seated in the Opposition dressing room of the Australian team which decision he entertained even before the spectators were to be accommodated.During this interview it was noticed that Murali had a serious dismal feeling about the term 'traitor' being used on him and on this occasion unlike in other instances he went on to give an elaborate explanation to the effect that he had not betrayed his country. He admitted that he did have an argument with Charith Senanayaka but at the same time he said that when he mentioned that the information he had given instructions in relation to the setting of Saravanamuttu Grounds was false -- the exchange of words occured then had gone as far as a heated argument.
Murali says that Mr. Charith had complained something false about him without consulting him or the curator and he went on further by saying that even Chairman Thilanga had without proceeding for an enquiry or even without questioning him had made him a scapegoat by resorting to brand him by holding political exhibitions portraying him as the accused and had tried to solve the issue as it is done in Politics. Murali then said that if the curator was questioned the latter would have mentioned that he was not responsible and that refraining to do so goes to indicate that it was based solely on the fact that he was not in favour of signing an Agreement for a 10 day coaching stint. Murali also stated that he possesses no special prowess to develop Australia within the space of 10 days and that he accepted the invitation on an official level because he felt a sense of pride for being wanted by Australia once more.
In the same way he said that if his mother country had called for his services, he was always prepared to give a positive response and that Sri Lanka Cricket was not interested in anything of that sort but had wanted to go behind foreign coaches. He says that not only where he is concerned but several others including players like Vas, Haturusingha and Upul Chandana had to forego such opportunities. He finally poses the question that if he has the desire for coaching ... what then is wrong in trying to going ahead with it. Ending his interview Murali finally says that though he has a dual citizenship both in India and Sri Lanka he would never leave the island because he has a love for his country.
