Paba's second marriage .... a trap?

 Paba's second marriage .... a trap?

The second marriage of former member of parliament and tele-actress Upeksha Swarnamali which had been fixed to be held at Colombo Kingsbury Hotel yesterday (24) has been postponed.

She had been expecting to marry a businessman and had taken steps not to reveal his name until the eleventh hour.
Upeksha had identified him in a loveable tone as the only person who was close by her side at a time when she was rendered helpless politically and whom she knows for a number of years. However she was scared in providing information about him several times to the media because having gone to enter into a marriage on several occasions they had abandoned her and she was then rendered helpless. What the field of Arts reveal is that the same tune has been played in the case of this marriage too.

However what Upeksha had told while addressing a weekend newspaper is that because her mother had been subjected to a sudden heart condition this wedding was delayed and when inquiring about a later date it was not possible to find an auspicious day and thus it ultimately resulted in not being able to fix it for the month of February. She also says that February is a 'Kona maasaya'.

Whatever it is, she had expressed her ideas a few weeks ago to the press saying that since she celebrated her first wedding in a grand style, she does not hope to celebrate the second in an equally big way and that a small get together for close comrades and selected artistes would be organised  and that she neither hopes to attend to any traditional customs either. Upeksha has also said that under the circumstances that her mother is sick, she is not able to get married and a date has not been fixed to have the marriage.

A few weeks ago a certain youth had been worrying her and had been saying that he would be coming to her house to get married and Upeksha had complained to Homagama Police too. After reports were published in connection with it the comment readers had made was that it could well be someone who was familiar with her. Her marriage was postponed too after a week later, since that incident.

How the state-confiscated stock of ivory

A large stock of ivory which was intended to be transported on the sly and was taken into custody by the Sri Lankan Customs was destroyed today in public at Galle Face. The President and the Prime Minister too were present on that occasion. The Sri
Lankan Customs were successful in getting hold of this stock of ivory across a raid conducted on May 12th in the year 2012 during an instance when it was to be transported to Dubai via Sri Lanka from Kenya. This stock of ivory which was of a value of Rs. 42 billion belonged to 183 African elephants and the number of tusks were 359, with a weight of 1528 kilos.

The President's Office had issued an order during the Mahinda regime in the year 2014 having heard that this stock of ivory was to be destroyed and to donate those to viharas, but because of a protest launched against it, the proceedings had to be stopped. According to existing laws, the government is bound to destroy this stock of ivory and it is understood that this may have been done also as a measure to discourage the ivory business.

Gnanasara Thera who apeeared for another's case ....

and shouted at the Judge ... arrested!

nanasara Thera who apeeared for another's case ....

Having appeared at a legal case not pertaining to him and at the end of the case had come forward from a corner and spoken in a defamatory manner to both Judge and lawyers, Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera of Bodu Bala
Sena Organisation was ordered to be taken into custody by court for the offence of contempt of court.

When the case relating to the disappearance of  reporter Prageeth Ekneligoda was heard yesterday at Homagama Courts, this incident was reported. The said case was heard in the presence of Magistrate Mr. Ranga Dissanayaka. After the Magistrate ordered that the suspected 6 Intelligence Service officers were ordered to be further remanded and when the crowd who had assembled in courts were dispersing, it is said that Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera who had been in open courts had all of a sudden spoken out in a high tone. "Government officers of this low-grade government have imprisoned soldiers who rescued this land by destroying the Tigers!" he had uttered in a loud voice. Though the Magistrate had explained matters to Gnanasara Thera, it is said that the thera had not changed his opinion and had proceeded to make a speech for some minutes in courts. The thera who spoke out vociferously in that instance in courts in support of  the officers who were suspected as being involved in the Ekneligoda murder had even gone to the extent of speaking against senior Attorney-at-Law Dileepa Pieris who appeared on behalf of Sandya Ekneligoda, in a degrading manner. On the occasion when the thera had tried to shout about and create a big commotion by saying "I won't allow these things as long as I am in robes!" the magistrate pointed out that action could be taken under the offence of contempt; but the thera had continued saying, "Yes ... give any punishment; we're prepared to accept it. We came because we can't bear these things!" Since court activities could not be continued any further, the magistrate had replied, "Then thera you make speeches here ... I'll go away". At that point what lawyers in courts had said was that Galagodaaththe Thera is not a party of the case and that when such a person shouts in courts , the magistrate should not mediate in such an issue.

A short while later the thera had left the courts-hall. What the Magistrate had mentioned on that occasion was that in accordance with the law he would have to arrive at a decision. As such Homagama Magistrate then ordered the police to take the General Secretary of Bodu Bala Sena Organisation, Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera into immediate custody under the offence of behaving in a manner of disturbing activities of the open court and to produce him before courts. It was learned that because of this incident activities of the courts was disrupted for a period of almost half-hour.
