As reported, the incident is as follows: A person living in Mihintale had bought a Development Lottery ticket from Mihintale town a few days back and on inspecting the numbers by the lottery-seller it was found that the buyer was the winner of Rs. 5 lakhs. The winner had then invited the lottery-seller to share his happiness. He had subsequently come to Anuradhapura town in the company of the lottery-seller with the winning ticket in his possession and had gone towards the rear part of a Sathosa warehouse at Anuradhapura market-place and had engaged in a boozing session.

During this process, an unknown person had come to that spot and had become friendly with them. During the period he was in conversation with them, the lottery-owner had served liquor to this newcomer because of becoming over-happy. After a short time this newcomer had all of a sudden pulled out a knife which he had been hiding in his possession and showed it to the lottery-winner and had demanded money. The latter who had got shocked by this had handed over the lottery-ticket as well as his wallet. This person had then beat a quick retreat from the spot with all what was given to him.

Anuradhapura Police Headquarters Crime Investigation Unit is conducting investigations to get at this culprit. Whatever it is, the police had already instructed the Development Lottery Board not to make the payment of Rs. 5 lakhs for the winning ticket. The police who are conducting investigations say that they are of the suspicion that the suspect who had come to grab the lottery ticket could be someone who is familiar to the lottery-seller.
