Swords, clubs, alcohol inside car of Range's son ...
car driven under drunken stupor, crashes into house!

A cab belonging to a state ministry which vehicle state minister Mr. Palitha Range Bandara's son has driven had deviated from the road and crashed inside a house at Kottapitiya main junction in Bangadeniya along the main route of Chilaw and Puttalam. The vehicle has suffered serious damage in the process. Mr. Yashoda Range Bandara and another person who were in the vehicle have been admitted to Chilaw general hospital with injuries.

The accident has taken place around 01.30 in the early hours yesterday the sixth. The cab concerned
has been returning home with a crowd of persons after attending a function held at a hotel in Karukapane when the accident has happened. The police have been able to find some documents supposed to be belonging to the secretary of Skills Development and Vocational Training together with information that the cab is one belonging to ministry of Irrigation and Water Management. Apart from that, a sword, some clubs too were found inside the cab. In addition, a bottle of liquor, a bottle of soda, some bites and some cups used for drinking alcohol were found while two persons who were travelling in the cab and the cab itself have been taken into custody by Aarachchikattuwa police.

The hall of the house concerned has turned into a storehouse of rubble after the aftermath of this accident while the cab has suffered severe damage. The owner of the damaged house, Chamara Lahiru Nuwan Amaradivakara mentions that he had identified that it was state minister of Irrigation and Disaster Management, Mr. Palitha Range Bandara whose son it is who had being driving the vehicle. He further says that he, his wife and two children had been sleeping in rooms inside the house at that moment.

At the moment the accident took place, eye witnesses say that a crowd in another cab which had come behind this cab had made the driver of the cab and the injured persons get into their cab and gone away.

This cab which had come along Karukapane route had gone crashing deviating without not being able to turn to the Chilaw Puttalam road, thus running across. With all gas balloons in the this modern cab has opened up and had blasted, and therefore as a result the persons travelling inside could be minimum, police say.

Aarachchikattuwa police has resumed an investigation in relation to the persons who were travelling in the vehicle. Inquiries in relation to the accident are being conducted by officer in charge of traffic division, sub inspector Samaratunga and officers under directions of officer in charge of Aarachchikattuwa police station, inspector of police Mr. Anuradha Herath.

Sri Lankan passenger who created bomb scare ....
imposed 12 year jail sentence!

The court case with regard to the Sri Lankan who created a bomb scare within the flight MH 128 flying from Melbourne, Australia to Malaysia on the night of May 31st last year came to an end and he was sentenced to jail for 12 years.

2 year old Manod Mark had tried to gain access to the cockpit of the plane MH 128 belonging to Malaysian Airlines which was heading towards Kuala Lumpur in the month of May last year and had

made an attempt to manouvre the plane to return to Melbourne. He had attempted all this by saying that he was in possession of a bomb. However, when checked it was exposed that he had displayed only a power bank which is utilised to charge a mobile phone and had thus created a false fright among passengers.

The case was heard on the accusation that he was responsible for for a loss by making the plane return to Melbourne thus subjecting the life of passengers to a great risk of life because of a mental derangement resulting from use of illegal drugs. There had been about 300 passengers on board the said flight, it was reported. This piece of news that a Sri Lankan passenger on board the flight MH 128 which was heading from Australia to Malaysia had created this stupid act in fact became the main news item in all prominent media around the world those days. As a consequence this incident ended up with the name of Sri Lanka as well as a majority of Sri Lankans living in Australia being tarnished.

The person responsible for this incident was a Sri Lankan by the name of Manod M. Marks who was living in Dandenong in Australia under a student visa. Though it was initially surveyed that he had resorted to this act under intoxication, it was later confirmed that he actually was subjected to a form of mental aberration being addicted to narcotics. He had also tried to scrape through the court case by indicating that he had been at the last time been taking treatment from Monash Medical Centre hospital.

About thirty minutes after the flight took off he had displayed an instrument with a battery inserted in it near him shouting, "I've got a bomb and I'm going to f***ing blow the plane up", thus putting the passengers into a fright for nothing and had then threatened saying that he wanted to get into the cockpit. The staff members had then taken action at that moment and brought him under control preventing him after which he had collapsed. In the process the flight had returned and subsequently the security forces had arrested him without any difficulty as such. It was thereafter revealed that the bomb story in fact was just a hoax.

A former Australian footballer and his fiancee had been on board the flight and since their testimonies too were published, this news became even more popular. Thus this news hit the headlines in all leading newspapers around the globe at that time and it was mostly interpreted in reports as 'A ludicrous act of a Sri Lankan lunatic".

He was finally imposed a 12 year jail term according to the Federal Law of Australia under the charges of inconveniencing passengers, causing a false sense of fright and influencing cancellation of the flight. This is considered as the first instance when a person is sentenced to jail for having hijacked a plane.

Illicit IMO romance of mother of two ...
ends up with scene of stabbing!

A mother of two children who had been maintaining an illicit love affair with a father of two children, having utilised the IMP App of a mobile phone was subjected to a case of stabbing at four places in the body and is in a serious condition. The crime is reported from Kurunegala.

The husband of the said female had been employed overseas for a number of years and during this period she has developed a romance with a father of two across the IMO App. He happens to be

someone who has retired from the army and is resident in Polonnaruwa. The association however has come to a halt for some months because of a certain misunderstanding. This woman who is under treatment after being stabbed has informed the legal wife of the person with whom she had got involved in the illicit entanglement about their clandestine affair, and as a consequence the illicit lover has had nowhere to lean to as such, it is said. He had in fact gone into a rage because his wife had gone away from the house, taking the two children with her. The retired army soldier who had gone into a frenzy over this situation had come to Udayandana from Polonnaruwa and had taken refuge in the illicit paramour's house on the sly and had committed this crime.

On the day of this incident he had come there on the fifth around 1.00 in the morning and had stabbed her in the front and rear of her body with a sharp instrument causing her grievous hurt and had beat a retreat. The neighbours had then taken steps to hospitalise the wounded woman. The police said that she is under care of the intensive care unit of Kurunegala Teaching Hospital and hat her condition is serious. It was a woman aged 38 years residing in Udayandana area of Kurunegala police division who faced this tragical scene.

Though the assailant has tried to flee from the grip of the police when she was hospitalised, his attempt has come to nought. Kurunegala police headquarters crime division said that he has been remanded till the 20th on court otders.

The moment when Colonel Mr. Ratnapriya Bandu, Commanding Officer of the three districts Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi got a transfer yesterday after a service of five years and when he was bidding goodbye to members of LTTE who were rehabilitated indeed became a deep sensitive moment.

It was the public who served in areas such as Kilinochchi, Jaffna and Mullaitivu who shed tears on
this occasion after having left the LTTE movement. Mr. Ratnapriya in fact was someone who strived to build the lives of a large number of LTTE detainees during a period of five years. Orders food to a bogus address ... delivery boy looted!

Kahatuduwa police say that five individuals were taken into custody for having displayed a sharp knife and threatened with death and assaulting him on the occasion when a worker who was in the process of delivering food of an instant outlet by motor bicycle in Kottawa area finally looting the food brought by him to be delivered and the cash in his possession. On investigation it was revealed

that it was a parcel of food valued at over Rs, five thousand, police say.

The marauders had ordered food to the value of over Rs. five thousand by telephone call to the food outlet concerned in the night a few days before in the outlet in the town of Kottawa. They had in fact given the name of a certain lonely byroad in Mattegoda and an address of a closed down house and to deliver the food there. Having ambushed the said representative who was to come on his motor bike at that house had committed this crime and taken to their heels, police say.

A police officer said that the persons who carried out this crime were taken into custody according to some information received by the officer in charge of Kahatuduwa police station, sub inspector Mr. Kamal Bandara with regard to the complaint received in this connection. The police officer further mentioned that a bag in which the looted food parcel was also containing the name of the food outlet on it was found inside the house of a person who was arrested. Police said that they would investigate to check whether these persons involved in looting of this nature were connected to looting in Kahatuduwa and the environs as well in similar crimes.

Divaina news about bricks being set up on planet Mars,

What was revealed from a piece of foreign news published on 4th page of last Saturday's daily newspaper of Divaina was that a pile of bricks used for construction of buildings was found on planet Mars. It was described on the page concerned that this discovery was detected

by Curiosity rover for research purposes which was released by NASA recently as found on planet Mars. It was further explained that this pile of bricks dates way back as 3.5 billion years which is amazing.

Whatever it is, notes published in the social media with reference to this relevant piece of information has been pointed out as a blemish that has occured as a result of incorrect translation of news released by foreign media and that it is therefore erroneous.

State Minister Sujeewa quitting his portfolio?

What Minister of State Mr. Sujeewa Senasingha has said was that he is prepared to quit his position if at all the leader of the party or the Speaker asks him to quit from Yahapalanaya after taking into consideration the issue of cheques which have been given to his friends by Mendis

and Co. during the election period. He has stated that he had initially mentioned that it is he and Minister Ajith Perera who said that an inquiry should be carried out against Perpetual Treasuries Co. The State Minister said that as such the Presidential Commission was appointed and that through it, it is clear that his duties under reference were duly carried out without protecting anybody. He also said that though he had made a request to summon him and others involved if there is any question about the role of the COPE committee, the commission had never summoned him and that nowhere it is stated anywhere in the report of the commission that he had done anything wrong. The Minister of State further said that if he was aware that Perpetual Treasuries Co. is connected to Mendis & Co. he would at that moment itself inform his friends not to secure the funds given by that company for the election campaign. He also said that he had not received a cheque from anybody; but that he had of course spent cheques received by the group who has voluntarily come forward during the election period. The Minister also remarked that the Speaker has notified him that the parliament is taking some action in connection with this incident.

The Minister went on to say that his name does not appear in the cheques concerned but that while they were handed over to one of his security officers and that his friends have changed the cheques, it was so done for the sake of security. He then said that if he had wanted to do it on the sly, he would not have taken a cheque and that he would take cash in that instance. He then remarked that monies are taken on all election periods since 1948 and that if it is said that such monies have not been taken in that manner, he would quit politics. Mr. Sujeewa Senasingha remarked that if the Speaker informs him not to receive monies for election, he would never take money for that purpose. When things were such, he would not take money from a company belonging to a company which became the company that was involved in the biggest scandal in Sri Lanka, he mentioned. The Minister of State finally stated that he is prepared to reimburse the said sum of money which he had given over to his friends during the election period.

Rupavahini broadcaster Mahesh Nissanka arrested for being involved in stabbing incident!

Well known announcer of national rupavahini, Mahesh Nissanka was taken into custody by Kadawatha police today under the accusation of having committed the crime of stabbing a person.

On a certain conflict the victim, the owner of a physical development institution, one Wasantha Kumara Liyanage some days back, Mahesh had stabbed him and caused injury and the victim is

presently under treatment at hospital. It was also reported that the victim's condition is somewhat serious. On a personal issue this incident incidentally has taken place between the owner of the physical development institute and Mahesh Nissanka during night time.

Whatever it is, until a number of days elapsed no action was taken by police according to news circulating around social media. Subsequently this aforesaidarrest was done today the 12th. Mahesh Nissanka became particularly popular because of the rupavahini programme Suramya Raathri. He is expected to be produced before court.

Student who eyed principal and deputy principal behaving in awkward manner ...
thrown out of school!

An incident where a student who eyed a principal and a lady deputy principal inside the school office has been subjected to being dispelled from school with various bogus accusations being aimed at this student is reported from a school in Gampaha area.

On the occasion when the student concerned had gone to the principal's room to fetch a piece of chalk, he had observed the principal and the lady deputy principal behaving in a lewd manner and he

had spoken about this to his friends, the student says. The student further says that the principal has afterwards inquired about this and had reprimanded him and he was subjected to inhuman punishment by the lady deputy principal accusing him of sporting long hair. That particular day the student's mother had been summoned and he had been expelled from school without any reasonable excuse being given in that respect. Though the student was someone who had won a name as an outstanding student for studies right from the start in school and has also has secured successes in extra sports activities was dispelled from school and it was reported to the zonal department of education by his parents after the incident, this issue has not been inquired into because of some political influence.

The student has further stated in his complaint that after this immodest case of behaviour the principal and the lady deputy principal have resorted to harassing him by bringing out various accusations and when the deputy principal had beaten him saying that his hair was long, he had stretched his hand and tried to evade the blows it was a teacher who came to his rescue. It was also mentioned in the complaint made by the student that two policemen were summoned to the principal's office in the incident where his hair was cut and that his mother too was called to be present and he was made to get involved in a serious misdemeanour to the effect that he had tried to assault the principal.

Subsequently the student concerned has been removed from school and afterwards he had complained to the zonal education office and provincial education office about the injustice done to him on a number of instances, only after pleading in this connection that he was provided another school in the zone finally. However, no action has been taken against the principal while the student has been subjected to heavy mental pressure in the meantime, it is reported. Sources from the zonal education department reports that action against the principal has been thrown under the carpet because of a political hand behind the scene.

* How many dress creations were there at Royal birthday party?

I designed dresses of Shalani, Madhavi and Nadeesha. Sulekha's styling was done and Sachini's hair accessories were designed.

* Madhavi's dress was subjected to good and bad criticisms of most people. In what manner was access made towards that design?

Yes ... Madhavi's dress was created by me. It should be first said that a designer never forces a dress on somebody. Actually it was not done for Madhavi as such. It was a dress that was there at the London Fashion show which I attended. That day a lot of positive comments were made on that dress. Madhavi is someone who is among celebrities of this country and someone who has an enchanting body. As such, this dress really suited her. In that instance I designed this dress in association with an Egyptian goddess.

* Even responses received with regard to Shalani's dress were not that much favourable isn't it?

Shalani actually is dressed in a jump suit. The two arms of that dress cover the shoulders. Since only the legs were exposed, some people feel that it is not suitable. Actually if Shalani wore a long short skirt to that length, people who made those comments would not oppose it. That is the truth of it.

No reasons have been given for Fly Dubai which were transporting a least number of passengers for a period of time to desert Mattala. Though Sri Lankan Airways had scheduled flights across Mattala, those flights were discontinued from 2015 due to the minimum number of passengers. It was explained that by stopping those flights it would be possible to stop a

wastage of 18 million dollars. Since the last government stood by their final decision that an airport was deemed essential for Hambantota in spite of numerous environmental and problems of distance (a 5 hour journey for a distance of 250 kilometers to Colombo), it was built in 2013 at an investment of 210 American dolars.

However, there were environmental issues such as birds being knocked down and dying in the process during the construction. Even special operations were carried out to direct deer and elephants to other locations within a period of two years on opening of the airport in the reserve where it was constructed by using services of security units.

International business magazines have named Mattala as the most desolate airport in the world and an employee batch of 500 at Mattala had been participant in supplying fuel to Antanov, the world's largest airliner. However the location would from this week onwards turn out to be a place which would not be made use of by anybody as such.

Son, friend and Mahesh down body builder at supermarket car park and engages in attack!

Kadawatha Police have yesterday taken into custody well-known rupavahini journalist Mahesh Nissanka and his two young sons and another person in connection with an incident of causing hurt to a person with a pointed instrument and have been produced before and after being produced in court was instructed by Mahara magistrate Shashan Dinel in which instance Mahesh's younger son, Thanuja Nissanka was given bail while Mahesh and

the other person were sent to remand prison until today (13).

Though some misleading information and news were circulated by the media misdirecting the public, according to information what was revealed about the said incident in court is as follows: Mr. Wasantha Kumara, proprietor of the popular physical development institute called Body Works Personal Training in Enderamulla, Wattala in fact was someone who maintained close relationships with artistes. Popular actors and actresses have been frequenting his institute for training sessions daily and he in fact was someone who appears in rupavahini programmes to provide advice on physical development exercises.

Mahesh Nissanka of national rupavahini too is quite well known to him. However in recent times a misunderstanding has occured between the two of them over a personal issue. During night time past 9th, the two of them have confronted each other at a certain stores at which moment the previously mentioned issue has come to surface once more resulting in a verbal attack.

Mahesh was at that time in the company of his schoolgoing son and another friend who too had got involved in this argument. Since the argument was not conducive to the environment in the supermarket in which they were at that time, they had come out and continued with the argument. On that occasion Mahesh had got into a rage and had rushed to his vehicle parked at the car park and having opened its door had picked up a pointed instrument and had downed Wasantha Kumara and begun assaulting him. Mahesh's son as well as the friend had got involved in this fracas. Whatever strength he had, Wasantha Kumara ultimately could not counter-attack his opponents in the presence of three attackers.

Wasantha Kumara who was subjected to this assault had fallen on the ground and those around had taken steps to hospitalise the victim who had sustained serious injuries as a consequence. Thus 3 year old bachelor physical development instructor Wasantha Kumara after being admitted to hospital in still under treatment for the fourth day while arresting Mahesh Nissanka has still been delayed. The three of the assailants were taken into police custody yesterday and Mahara magistrate Mr. Shashan Dinel released Mahesh's son, the third suspect on a cash bail and personal bond yesterday on the grounds that as he was someone of schoolgoing age and it was unnecessary to detain him. Though he was thus released on a cash security of Rs. 1000 and a personal surety of Rs. one lakh, Mahesh and thefriend were sent to remand prison. The court hearing regarding this incident is to be resumed today.

Former Kapuva (shaman)shoots Kirivehera viharadhipathi to take revenge for dismissing him from his job ... now absconding

It has now been revealed from ongoing investigations that the incident of shooting Kataragama Kirivehera Raja Maha viharadhipathi Kobawaka Dhamminda thero has been committed by former chief kapuva of Mahasen Devala Asela Bandara.

The suspect has by now fled his village and a police team had checked the kapuva's home yesterday (13) on which occasion implements used in the shooting were found there while the red coloured

vehicle in which they supposed to have come was found parked opposite the said kapuva's house. A former army soldier understood to have got involved in the shooting incident was taken into custody on suspicion yesterday (13).

Information was revealed that a brother of the kapuva had accompanied the former kapuva of Kataragama Mahasen Devala with this army soldier. This former kapuva has fled the village with his brother, police say. Guardiaship of Mahasen devalaya has been transferred to Kirivehera Nayaka thero about an year ago under a court decision and as a a kapuva has been newly appointed, the former kapuva who was ejected has lost his bread and butter had entertained a revengeful attitude towards the viharadhipathi and this shooting may have been the root cause for it, it is suspected.

When the viharadhipathi has been the target of the shooting, the thero who was closeby too was injured in the shooting and the three suspects had beat a retreat immediately afterwards in a jeep, though officers of the guard post at the vihara premises were able to open fire; however since devotees were moving around the place they had avoided doing so thinking of the loss of the life of those devotees, it is reported.

The said viharadhipathi thero as a principle had been attending to religious observances at Kirivehera every night as a custom and the perpetrators were aware that the thero would be engaged in such procedures that night around ten forty five as usual and had been ambushing him and thus opened fire. The injured thero was first admitted to Katharagama hospital and transferred to Hambanthota hospital for further treatment and since the shots had entered his abdomen region, it is reported that he is in a serious condition. Sobhitha thero who was in his company had sustained injury to one of his legs. Police say that there are seven gun shot marks near the wall close to the flight of steps where the assailants had opened fire and three empty bullet shells had been found fallen on the ground.

Galagodaaththe Gnanasara thero sentenced to months rigorous imprisonment!

General Secretary of Bodu Bala Sena organisation, Galagodaaththe Gnanaransi thero who was accused of having threatened journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda's wife, Mrs. Sandya Ekneligoda with death was found guilty by court today and was issued a jail term of rigorous imprisonment of months for criminal harassment and intimidation. The jail term of 1 year was thus
sentenced to be completed within six months.

Strong police protection has been provided at Homagama court complex and as there is a possibility that a state of commotion could erupt, the riot squad unit has been summoned. In the meantime, Galagodaaththe Gnanasara thero had been present with theros and donors who had gathered in large numbers when this habeaus corpus case was taken up for hearing on January 25th 2016 and he had shouted and intimidated Mrs. Sandhya Ekneligoda in abusive language saying that Ekneligoda was an LTTE supporter and "without you coming like that ... beg on the streets!" Subsequently during the course of the hearing, he had even reprimanded the judge himself using the word 'pon....'!

After the lawyers made a request to take action against the thero, the Homagama magistrate Ranga Dissanayaka ordered the police to take action in that regard. Homagama police subsequently filed this case under the allegations under No. 386 of criminal harassment and No. 486 of criminal intimidation. As the thero had evaded court continuously when the case was called for in this connection he had been served summons and had later appeared in court. After he was imposed the jail sentence for 6 months the thero was escorted to prison in the midst of protection from a large crowd.

"Huh ... am I asked to wear the burqa?" asks Shalani Tharaka

Among the various dialogues published in relation to dresses worn at Chandimal Jayasingha's birthday party, popular actress Shalani Tharaka has brought forward a debatable opinion in that respect. There are some people who get upset when they see the legs through the net after covering parts of the body that needs be covered with the dress being short. So next time I will wear a burqa and put it as a post. Please get away from the island mentality. What I have dressed in is not a bikini. The other thing is, for the information of those who spoke about the theme ... it is a Royal and Hollywood. This has been put as a post for the purpose of information and not for argument of opinions as such. So now chooty nangis who want to argue under comments posted by wasting their time have nothing to do have the freedom now. I have to say that I of course have no time to participate in those".

signs of being released

Galagodaaththe Gnanasara thero was imposed a jail term, fine and compensation on a verdict pronounced as the thero being found guilty of having threatened Mrs. Sandhya Ekneligoda, wife of media correspondent Prageeth Ekneligoda when she was present at Homagama court. Gnanasara thero has

submitted an appeal to the same court requesting that the judgement of Homagama magistrate be dismissed.

The thero has made an appeal saying that the magistrate has made him guilty without properly analysing matters presented on behalf of the prosecution and therefore to dismiss the verdict of the magistrate and release him. The attorney general has been named as the respondent and what legal sources say is that if the appeal is taken for hearing, the thero would find freedom from imprisonment the appeal case is over.

Bogus engineer works for 7 years at Mahaweli Authority!

A certain person who has served in an office belonging to Mahaweli Authority for a period of 7 years after having forwarded a false degree certificate to the effect that he had secured a certified degree in Engineering from Peradeniya faculty was taken into custody by police fraud

detection bureau. He had thus been drawing a very high salary in the process.

The said person has drawn a monthly basic salary of Rs. 50255. This person who has lived in Wanduramba area in Galle was actually aged 52 years. However he had provided false certificates to say that he was 45 years old and thus had joined Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry, it was revealed at investigations. He had served for close upon 7 years as an advisor in a related office in connection with engineering activities.

The suspect has enrolled in the year 1991 for service as a civil engineer on November 1st 2010 by forwarding a certified engineer degree secured from Peradeniya Engineering Faculty. But it is rather surprising as to how his qualifications were approved and he was enrolled for service by those officers concerned. Whatever it is, the authorities have had some suspicion about the degree certificate of 2016 after a lapse of 6 years and when the suspect smelled that they were inquiring into his credentials, he had fled from his work-place on December 29th, 2016.

Investigations were launched to search for him after the human resource manager of the work-place complained to police fraud investigation unit. This bogus engineer was taken into custody day before yesterday (13) while engaged in duties at a worksite in Wanduramba, police informed. The suspect who fled in fear of being cornered for inquiries had appeared as an engineer at various places in the island for the past few months and have secured jobs, it was reported. The suspect is expected to be produced before courts.

How Lion Shepherd which did not identify owner was finally solved

A certain dog reared in a house in Habaraduwa, Galle had been uncared for by its owner and a woman in the neighbourhood had volunteered to feed the dog. Later the son of the woman concerned has on the sly sold the dog and as a result a dispute has occured between the buyer and the genuine owner in resect of the ownership of the dog. This issue was heard in court a few days ago.

According to matters divulged by Habaraduwa police the rightful ownership of this puppy 'Lion

Shepherd' with a high value raised in Pilana area was the focus of attention. As the owner of this puppy was in prison for a number of months before, it was a sister of his who had cared for the dog by providing it with food and drink.

One day when she had been taking food for the dog, she had noticed that the kennel door was left open and on inquiring further she came to find that the dog was missing and later found that it had been sold. The police who went into action then had proceeded to the house to which it was sold and brought back the dog to the police station. Thus the police were able to also find the vaccination book of the dog and other related documents in the process.

In the meantime, the wife of the person in jail had come to the police station claiming ownership of the dog and had wanted the dog back. On that occasion the police the new owner was brought to the police station and what he said was that he had acquired the dog after securing all legal documents. Therefore, it was deemed necessary to take this issue to courts. In courts what the magistrate said was that the woman who said that she was the original owner of the dog has no legal evidence to prove ownership of the dog and further that she even is not aware of the name of the dog. When the dog was called by its name the dog has not responded, it was reported. At present the documents of the dog are in possession of the buyer and as such the claim of the woman who made the claim for ownership was rejected and it was ordered that the dog should be released to the person who bought the dog on a bond of Rs. thirty thousand.

Rumour that Maithri is to leave coalition government on September 2nd

President Maithripala Sirisena has hinted that he would be quitting the coalition national unity government on the 67th commemoration of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party which falls on forthcoming September 2nd. Lakbima Sunday newspaper which is published under the ownership of Thilanga

A point that has been brought up is that Sri Lanka Freedom Party has become the the third power in the country at last local government elections because it has instituted a coalition national government with United National Party and party supporters of the party at grass root level have abandoned the party having been disappointed in that respect. This idea the President has emphasised on a number of occasions at executive committee meetings of Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

News sources have quoted that several factions of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party have made a request from President Maithripala Sirisena that he should quit the present government if the SLFP is to win at forthcoming elections and that the President has given some clues at the meeting held last week that he would be quitting the government by September 2nd when the commemoration of the party is to be held.

delivers baby inside train!

A pregnant female travelling in the night train 'Meenagaya' which was heading to Batticaloa from Colombo had delivered a baby within the compartment itself around early in the dawn at one o'clock.

Having thrown medical advice to the winds this pregnant woman has left hospital and had been travelling in the train and when the railway guard on duty has notified Habarana police around 12.30

in the night that sheis well nigh delivering the baby. On that occasion Habarana police had informed the medical officer of Habarana hospital. Later a lady family health officer accompanied by the health staff had visited Habarana railway station. As her delivery pains had aggravated when the train was nearing Habarana railway station, subsequently the baby was delivered in the railway compartment itself. At that moment the lady family health officer has provided all medical facilities for the mother and had taken steps to transport the delivered baby and the mother to Habarana hospital.

She in fact was a mother of two children from Batticaloa by the name of M. Rismira and twenty six years of age. The baby who was born yesterday within the railway compartment was in fact her third baby and it happened to be a baby boy.

As the mother was suffering from a heart ailment, she was sent to Dambulla basic hospital for better safety of her life. Doctors of the hospital said that both mother and child warded there are in good health. It was revealed that she had delivered her baby this way while she was on her way to her village by train in the company of her husband paying scant respect to the advice of doctors at the time she was being warded at a leading government hospital in Colombo. The doctors had considered the possible risk involved to both mother and baby during moment of delivery since she was suffering from a heart ailment.

It was possible to rescue that mother and baby because officers of Habarana police and Habarana hospital health staff hastened in this regard without any delay as such, it was reported. This happens to be the very first instance when an incident of this nature was reported in the hundred and sixty history of this country.
