Dr. Saheli who sang 'Ayubowewa Maha Rajaneni' takes hand in marriage with doctor-lover

Saheli Gamage who gained recognition because of singing the song 'Ayubowewa Maha Rajaneni' enters into marriage today 14th. Initially having followed her studies at SAITM University for a short time with the motive of becoming a doctor later left the campus and joined a university in Georgia and in the process struck up a romance with a Sri Lankan student studying there, by the name of Udara Kapukotuwa. Now both of them have
become doctors. After entering into marriage today they propose to go to Canada to further their studies and to settle down there.

This is what she said about it: "It was at the medical college that we came to know each other. Actually we both are very good friends. It was in 2012 that we both met and it was later that he expressed his love. When associating as a friend I realised that he was quite a good friend. He has a lot of good qualities. I was hoping for someone who had good qualities like Udara and so I got him. As Udara is a friend of mine, our mother also knew him. So there was no opposition to our affair.

Udara is someone who really understood me. He always encourages me to do something new. As such, I will get a good support from him for me to carry on with the family life, professional life as well as the field of music. I had no time to provide good creations for my fans where singing was concerned. I am sad about it. But when I came to Sri Lanka I engaged in singing songs. Even when I was at the university I was involved in music activities. We did a duet to be launched at the wedding. This is the first song that he sang: 'Sasara perada bendunu vilase' which will be launched on the day of the wedding. We are hoping to get together and engage in songs. I have ideas of doing a solo song before going to Sri Lanka. My professional side is medicine and my hobby is music. I have an idea of combining music to medicine and do something like music therapy.

After marriage we will be going abroad again. While engaging in professional activities I wish to devote attention to music activities also. I have hopes of doing studies on music therapy also. Because of academic work we miss out on hobbies. So in future we hope to allocate some time for the Arts too. By about July we would be going to Sri Lanka again. Since mother and father are in Canada we will be going to settle down in Canada.

* Anjali ... what's the support you get from 'appachchi'?

We bear the advice Ajja gives and the terrible shouting he makes. From the time we get up, until we go to sleep he's forever saying something like slacks is short ... legs are exposed. Ajja has controlled us and scared us and looked after us. I can never sleep ... he wakes us up forcing us to keep on practising drums. It's a hell of a push that he gives. 'Ginisiriya' spike which pierced the thighs ... removed by surgery at Karapitiya

A Ginisiriya spike of about a length of 5 feet which passed through the left thigh of a person who fell down from a coconut tree was removed at Galle, Karapitiya Hospital after a spellbound surgery.

The individual who faced this mishap was a father of 4 children. He had climbed a coconut tree and after plucking the coconuts he had been getting down from the tree and had thus fallen down from a
height of about 35 or 40 feet in the process and during the fall he had landed on a Ginisiriya fence close by. On that occasion a spike had gone through his left thigh.

This accident had taken place on the 12th of this month and after being admitted to Embilipitiya Hospital he was transferred to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital that afternoon, with the spike intact. After a miraculous operation which lasted for approximately two and a half hours that day, Specialist doctor Ranjuka Ubeysiri and team mates were successful in removing the spike. Because of this surgery it was possible to save the patient's life. It was Edirige Piyasiri (55) a resident of Uswewa area in Angunukolapelessa who was the victim in this instance.

Specialist Surgeon Ranjuka Ubeysiri had these observations to make regarding this miraculous operation: "After this victim was subjected to this accident it was to Embilipitiya Hospital that he was initially admitted to and a doctor of that hospital contacted me and told me that this patient would be transferred to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for a surgery and that an accident has happened to the victim's nerves. As such he was directed to me with the said spike intact. Later I took him inside the operating theatre and removed the spike from his thigh. First of all I blocked the flow of blood to the leg. After obstructing the flow of blood of nerves from the top part, the injured part was thoroughly cleansed and the nerves concerned were put in order. It was later that the spike was removed by surgery. However his main nerve had not been damaged. After the operation there was a satisfactory flow of blood to the legs of this patient. An MRI test is being conducted in order to check whether his spinal cord has been affected. He is in good health. In the instance when a spike like this enters the body, a victim should be brought to hospital. If an attempt is taken to remove such a spike,, the victim's life even may be at stake with an instance of haemmorage taking place.

Edirige Piyasiri  who faced this tragedy had this to say: "I was involved in plucking coconuts for a mudalali. In one field I plucked coconuts from about 17 trees. In the other field I plucked from about 14 trees. After that when I climbed another tree and was coming down I got hold of a coconut branch; but that broke off from my grip. I wasn't able to grip the other branch. I fell from the tree. There was a Ginisiriya tree on the fence and it was a spike from that tree which went through my leg. I was taken to hospital after detaching the spike from that tree".

Devi Balika schoolgirl who was prey to Kottawa train ... not a suicide but a murder! -- father suspects

Devi Balika schoolgirl who was prey to Kottawa train ... not a suicide but a murder! -- father suspects

The incident of an 18 year old schoolgirl who was reported as having committed suicide by keeping her neck to an oncoming train at Kottawa at about 8.30 in the night day-before-yesterday (14) according to the deceased's father is not a case of suicide as informed by him to the police after which the police have commenced a special investigation. It was Savindi Pabasara Jayasekera studying in the Bio Science stream in the
Advanced Level at Colombo Devi Balika Vidyalaya who had unfortunately died in this manner.

Opinion was expressed that after embracing death by keeping her neck on the railway track at the railway line close to the spot where a hilly section was cut between Kottawa Old Railway Station and the new railway station is being constructed was akin to the incident where previously the Peradeniya campus graduate too died with this last suicide following suit. After this incident her travelling bag was found hanging from her shoulder and her mobile phone was in her pocket.

Kapila Jayasekera the father of the deceased schoolgirl had to say this in relation to the incident: : "It's my eldest daughter who has died. My daughter died not because of having jumped in front of a train. This is a crime committed by someone who has preplanned it. I suspect that this is an instance where she has been made unconscious or duped and after bringing her here has made her keep her neck to the train to give the impression that she committed suicide. He bag containing books was around her shoulders and the cell phone was in her pocket. Someone who wants to jump in front of a train won't do so with the bag hanging on the shoulders and she never keeps the cell phone in her pocket either other than in her bag.

Another point ... there was no mud on the shoes that my daughter was wearing. It's clear from that, that someone has carried her and had kept her neck on the railway track and thus committed this crime. On the day she died she had spoken to her mother and younger brother on two occasions between 7 and 7.30 in the evening. She had said that she was on her way and was coming there now. When I called after 7.30 in the evening the phone was dead. In the same way she had exchanged SMS messages within that time period with a friend of hers".

The train driver has mentioned that he had seen the deceased lying with her neck placed on the railway track when the Kelani Valley train was travelling in Kottawa area and was heading from Colombo towards Avissawella but that he did not have sufficient time at his disposal to bring the train to a halt. The deceased schoolgirl had been studying in the Bio Science stream at the Advanced Level at Colombo Devi Balika Vidyalaya and had been living down Kulatunga Road, Pannipitiya, Kottawa and on the day of this tragedy she had attended an extra class and was returning home. She is the eldest daughter in the family and she is supposed to have a younger brother. Her parents say that she had been clever enough to secure nine 'A's at the GCE Ordinary Level Examination last year and her only motive had been to pass her A/Ls too with flying colours.

The parents have said that they are not aware of any reasons for her to take her life as such and the girl's father says that this is not a case of suicide but an act of crime done by somebody. In view of his statement the police say that instructions were given to conduct a postmortem and to forward its results to the magistrate.

'Loku Patty' who rode cycle for Piliyandala shooting ... arrested! Reveals how he received instructions from Madush in Dubai

'Loku Patty' who rode cycle for Piliyandala shooting ... arrested! Reveals how he received instructions from Madush in Dubai

On investigations conducted over the underground gang who fled the scene after shooting the anti-narcotics police team at Piliyandala recently with 2 persons embracing death in the process managed to arrest the 8th suspect day-before-yesterday.

It was Sujeewa Kumar de Silva (27) alias 'Ahungalle Loku Patty' the underground gang member who was apprehended while hiding in a highly dense forest in Medirigiriya, Polonnaruwa. It is presumed
that he was the person who had ridden the motor cycle from which gun shots were fired on that day. According to his confession all information related to the shooting incident has been exposed.

Loku Patty has said that it was Asitha Noel Kumara (Army Asitha) who was responsible for the shooting from the cycle and that the assailant had fled to India from a boat in Kalpitiya in the company of another main suspect by the name of Mohommed Nawaz. Mohommed Nawaz is the culprit who misled the police by providing false information by phone to the effect that he is able to trap a group involved in selling narcotics, thus luring the police to come to the spot which later became a scene of tragedy. Loku Patty further explained that instructions were issued to all three of them to carry out this attack by underground leader Kamburupitiye Madush who is presently hiding in Dubai.

As a result of the said attack a police constable and one 12 year old girl died while Mr. Rangajeewa, a chief police officer faced serious injury. Ahungalle Patty is a resident of Aluthgama Dharga Town and his brother is a henchman of underground leader Madush and had been arrested for homicide cases. Loku Patty's task had been to distribute drugs sent by Madush from Dubai among the young customers in Baddegama and surrounding area. Patty has also mentioned that apart from that duty he was from time to time engaged in underground activities. Loku Patty who is a bachelor aged 27 years had served for about 2 years with the Army 7th infantry platoon after which he has left the Army last year. Subsequently he had got involved in underground activities and heroin dealings after his brother introduced him to Madush, he had admitted.

Loku Patty who says that he had borrowed a sum of Rs. two and a half lakhs from Madush for a personal matter of his, in order to settle that money he had got involved in the Piliyandala attack. What he has told during police interrogation was that till he embarked on the Piliyandala attack he had not been aware that the attack was targetted on the police. This is his confession:

"That day Madush spoke at length from Dubai. He told that a person would bring a cycle to me and to go there. So I went there and as told a certain person came bringing the cycle. At the same time Army Asith got on to the bike, armed. He said that I would be informed where to go. Speaking after a short time he said that we have to proceed to Piliyandala. I was told that Rangajeewa's Alto is parked near People's Bank and to go there. As told, I went there. It was Rangajeewa who was the target and it was Army Asitha who fired at him. After that we beat a retreat".

After the attack Loku Patty initially went to hide in Ahungalla and after that had switched locations from there to Ingiriya and finally to Medirigiriya area in Polonnaruwa. On information received that Ahungalle Patty was hiding in an obscure house situated in the corner of a dense forest Special Investigator of Mirihana, Jayantha Perera together with his police team surrounded the said house in a most subtle manner and thus took Loku Patty into custody day-before-yesterday. This massive operations was launched under the supervision of IGP Mr. Pujith Jayasundera and DIG Nandana Munasingha's direct involvement.

When the police team rushed into the house adorned in civil clothes, underground chief Loku Patty was taken by utmost surprise. Loku Patty who was handcuffed was brought that same night to Colombo. At the moment of his arrest he had also been in possession of 10 grams of heroin.

The police have already been victorious in jumping over one hurdle as such. Their next mammoth challenge is to arrest Makandure Madush the underground criminal and murderer who has become the menace to the whole country. Also to apprehend him and his apprentices who are in hiding overseas into the hands of the law.

Trounces India ... Champion's Trophy to Pakistan!

Pakistan who competed for the Champion's Trophy 2017 with India in the Finals today at the Oval in England claimed a memorable win.

India having won the toss and decided to field and thus with Pakistan batting first at the end of the 50 overs scored 338 and India who pursued that large total messed up right at the start itself and was able to collect only 158 runs being bowled out in 30.3 overs. On behalf of
Pakistan, Fakar Saman scored 114, Azar Ali 59 while Mohommed Hafeez remained unbeaten and only 4 wickets collapsed in their total of 338. Apart from the 76 runs collected by Pandya in the Indian innings no other player was successful. Sharma was out for a duck, Dhoni for 4 and Kohli was dismissed for a paltry 5 runs which incidentally became a special feature. Among Pakistan bowlers Mohommed Amir and Hassan Ali bagged 3 scalps while Shahab Kahn too displayed his skills with the ball.

In the face of the difficult situation the Indian team was placed in, spectators were seen leaving their seats at the Oval from the time 6 wickets had collapsed, it was reported. The Indian team were the champions of the previous Champion's Trophy and it was for the first time Pakistan clinched this trophy.

 Indian newspapers underestimate Pakistan victory!

Indian newspapers underestimate Pakistan victory!

The distinguished victory claimed by Pakistan in the Finals for the Champion's Trophy played between India and Pakistan today (19) was underestimated and published so in most newspapers published in India.

As there is a barrier for a long time based on revenge founded on a national issue between India and Pakistan unceasingly, Pakistan grabbing this victory in Cricket in a background where conflicts are
flaring up constantly is a situation which Indians cannot bear up. Possibly for this reason, reporting this victory on leading pages of 5 national newspapers appeared in a somewhat beyond-the-normal style.

What has been reported right at the top of the leader page in the celebrated 'Times of India' newspaper is only about a victory by the Indian Hockey team against the Pakistan Hockey team with descriptions coupled with photographs. There was not even a word about the defeat in the cricket match in the main page and what is highlighted in the inner pages is that Pakistan acquired an unanticipated win.

In the same way what was described in the leader page in both 'DNA - Daily News Analysis' and 'The New Indian Express' newspapers was only about victory in Hockey. No indication at all was given to readers that there was a cricket match. Even 'Deccan Chronicle' newspaper had described the Hockey-victory at the top and the Cricket-defeat in brief at the bottom of the page. Only a photograph of the Pakistan player who scored a century was displayed on the first page of yesterday's 'The Hindu' newspaper; but without stating how India was defeated -- a comment was made saying that further details are available in the sports page. That first page, from here

Young woman who left husband and child and was boarded, keeping company with men ... murdered in Nugegoda!

Further information has already been revealed about the lover who was stabbed with the neck being slashed by her boy friend near a playground along Old Kesbewa Road, Nugegoda day-before-yesterday night. After the neighbourhood informed the police around 8 in the night her dead body was found while her assailant who was responsible for the stabbing had in the meantime surrendered to the police.

The victim, Prasadika Sankalpani Gunasingha (25) the young woman was a mother of 1 child and her
residence was Pahala Hewissa, Mathugama, it was reported. It was also understood that she had wedded at the age of 20 years. After marriage she had lived with her husband in his hometown of Amparai. A son was born to them and when the child was about 3 years there had been clashes between Prasadika and her husband. She had subsequently left her husband and returned home leaving the child in the custody of the husband.

Later she she had embarked on a free life associating other lovers and in the process had tried to search for her first love who incidentally was a class-mate of hers during schooldays. It was by him that she was stabbed.

About an year ago she is supposed to have got across to him through social media and the phone, thus giving life to her old flame. At that time she was stationed in Mathugama while the former lover was employed at a cushion workshop in Nawinna, Maharagama. As such they have had a problem in meeting each other. What she had told was, "I always need you ... find a way of meeting often". Accordingly the young man had found a job for her at a beauty salon in Gam Sabha Junction, Nugegoda as an assistant there, making her get boarded somewhere close to Delkanda close to her workplace.

As the two of them had been associating each other with the motive of getting married, he had sensed some change in her behaviour after some months. He had further noticed that on certain occasions her phone was engaged for hours on end on suspicious calls and realised a situation where she was trying to avoid him by uttering lies which got caught red-handed. In the meantime at a recent time she had without informing him made all arrangements to switch over to some other salon in Homagama area and was planning to go to work there. She had thus been strategic enough to conceal everything from her lover.

After getting to know these matters in a roundabout process, when inquiries were made he had come to know that the deceased had been associating another lover in the recent past. He had then one day questioned her about this and though she covered up the story at first she subsequently admitted everything. He had then told her to come to Wijerama Junction day-before-yesterday evening after work was over saying that he wishes to question her further. So saying he had made her get on to his motor bike and travelling down Old Kesbewa Road had stopped near the lonely ground where lovers used to frequent and had subsequently begun to engage in a verbal battle.

Some members in the neighbourhood have noticed the couple coming there at about 7.30 that night and talking to each other. After the exchange of words the situation twisted into a rage of temper where he had pulled out a knife which he had brought with him and had started stabbing her neck region, around 8 in the night. It was revealed at police investigations that he had aimed 12 thrusts to the front of her neck in addition to her thighs and buttocks as well. Because of the attempt taken to avoid the stabbing assaults, her fingers too were found injured in the process.

After the murder committed by him the lover had surrendered to Kohuwala Police, bringing the knife along with him. Police investigations were carried out on the dead body and the police who took the lover into custody and is supposed to produce him before courts.

Lawyer saves life of disabled soldier trying to commit suicide!

An attorney-at-law attached to Anuradhapura High Courts was able to save the life of a disabled Army soldier all set to commit suicide  by keeping his neck to the train which happened to be travelling along the Northern route, day-before-yesterday (18).

This disabled soldier around 40 years of age and living in Anuradhapura Nirawiya area has become dejected over a clash that has taken place with his wife and was on the verge of ending his life by placing his neck to the express train plying
from Colombo to Vavuniya when a lawyer, Mr. Rohana Premalal Hettiarachchi engaged in relaxation activities near the cross road close to the Northern Railway Line had seen him and thus gone into action to rescue his life.

The said lawyer had this to say: "Every evening I engage in physical exercises by walking along the road. I got late to do so last 18th because I had to attend a certain function. While walking along the by-lane going towards Swarnapali Balika Vidyalaya opposite Anuradhapura Post Office at about 8 in the night I saw a person stretched out flat and keeping his neck to the rail track. I knew that in a short time a train would traverse along that Northern Railway track. On having a close look I noticed him frothing from the mouth. As I suspected that somebody had killed him and had put him on the rail track, I felt a bit scared to touch him. Later when having a closer look at him I noticed that he was breathing. I then told him to move away from the rail track. Since he showed no positive response I spoke in a stern voice and pushed him away from the railway line with my foot.

The young man then reprimanded me in harsh words. I noticed that he was with an artificial leg. As I thought that he was a disabled soldier I addressed him in a cordial manner and asked, "Putha ... aren't you a disabled soldier?" and why he was trying to commit suicide. He then replied saying that he had served the Army and because of a conflict with his wife he had come there after having resolved that he would end his life by keeping his neck to the train. Subsequently I explained matters to him saying, "You have lost a limb by trying to rescue the nation. Lives of people like you is of great value to us".

As the disabled soldier sin any case showed no sign of moving away from from the railway track I hastened to give a telephone call to Anuradhapura Police. The police officer who responded to the call said, "There are no officers available at this time". I then took steps to call Anuradhapura Railway Station. The officer there who answered the call told me to inform the police. At that moment I told a person walking along the road to help move him away. "Aney aiyya taking those things on our head ... can't go behind the police". So saying he went away. Not even 5 minutes passed by after that moment, the express train from Colombo to Vavuniya passed by.

I suspected that he would jump in front of the train coming after that; so I remained at that same place. Whatever it is, when the police officers turned up, about 20 minutes had elapsed after that train had passed by. The officers who came there inspected this person and managed to recover the three-wheeler in which he had come, the purse lying on the front seat of that vehicle and the national identity card and as he was in a highly intoxicated state the police took action to take him away".
