Body of Maradana OIC found dead under the fan in his official room ... a mystery

The dead body of the Community Policing Unit Officer-in-Charge at Maradana Police, Nimal Jayaweera (58) was found at about 3 last afternoon in the adjoining restroom attached to the police which he was occupying. A broken piece of wire was found round his neck at that spot. One end of the wire was found dangling from the fan in the room. As such it came to be known that he had
committed suicide by hanging on the fan  and that later he had collapsed.

Another police officer had been living at the same official quarters where the deceased was living and he had come to know about this incident after he had finished the number of hours allotted to him as his duty and returned around 2 in the afternoon. Since he was unable to open the door of the room he had opened the window, at which moment he had seen the OIC in a fallen down state. As such he had informed the others and subsequently on breaking open the door and inquiring further it was found that the OIC had taken his life. The reason why this officer committed suicide when he was due for retirement in the very near future is still not clear. The deceased had occupied the position of Community Policing Officer-in-Charge at Maradana Police 2 years ago as a result of a punishment transfer. This punishment transfer was given to Maradana Police Station for having withheld his duties while attached to Giribawa Police as OIC. The other officer mentioned above who was in his company said that he is unable to figure out as for what reason he had died like this. It was said that it is also not clear as to whether he died as a result of his neck being stuck by the wire attached to the fan or by falling down from a height. The magisterial inquiry in this connection was scheduled to be held last afternoon.

Belittlement done by children to distinguished singer by broadcasting absolutely personal details on Facebook

The wave of dialogues that covered the social media as well as websites about Victor Ratnayaka's second marriage, by now has reached a nauseating topic of discussion with Lelum Ratnayaka comporting himself in an indecorous manner even from childhood giving the impression that he is hurrying up too much on this issue when compared to other children by going into action and as a consequence has brought the
topic concerned to the limelight by confirming this matter related to Victor's private life more than just a piece of news that is being talked about as something connected with dubious news.

Some people argue that Victor's children did not treat him properly and that he had taken a significant decision in the twilight of his life while some others have criticised his action that he had been gripped with a sense of pride to wed a young damsel instead of deciding to spend his money and acquire the services of an elders' home. These comments that have been expressed have come down to the degree that they were observed being made across the social media, finally criticising his sexual longings, in a humorous tone too.

Given below is a message forwarded by a certain reader who points out this nauseating level in which Victor's son Lelum Ratnayaka has made remarks in the Facebook. The female reader who made these comments which criticised Victor's young carnal attitude has referred to in this manner saying "That which has been harvested by children who have smeared themselves all over by highlighting absolutely personal information across the Facebook! You'll are children who are born as a result of Kamma ... not children ... but killers".

Surgeon who did an operation on an animal which caused damage to his vehicle

Surgeon who did an operation on an animal which caused damage to his vehicle

An incident had taken place in Ekala some days back where a calf         fleeing from a dog in fright had accidentally knocked against the vehicle of a surgeon of the Maharagama Cancer Hospital when the doctor was on his way to attend the wedding ceremony of a relative. On this occasion the calf had collapsed and shouted in agony. The doctor who disregarded the loss sustained and the journey which he was making
had on the other hand got down from the vehicle and had carried out a surgery on the injured animal with the aid of tools and wire which he could lay his hands on at that time.

After this benevolent act he has been able to hand over the animal to its rightful owner. A brother of this doctor had reported this incident to the social media in the following manner: "This incident took pl ace on 04/03/2017. My brother and surgeon Dr. Ranil Pamod de Alwis of Maharagama Cancer Hospital was to leave home to attend the homecoming ceremony of his wife's sister and so set off at about 8.30 that morning from Welisara to Kurunegala in his vehicle. He gave me a telephone call around 9 in the morning and said "a bull got knocked against the car in Ekala ... if possible come". When I went there it was about 9.30 and when I was proceeding along the Kurunegala 05 bus route at Ekala Madama Junction about 300 metres towards Minuwangoda what I saw was a big traffic congestion with a crowd rallying around. I went to the spot and I could see my brother engaged in a surgery on this animal. Even by that time much of the task was already completed.

What those who were eye witnesses to this accident said was that a dog was pursuing this heifer and the animal who became frightened had made a fast run on to the main road and just then it had knocked against my brother's car. Even at the time I had gone there the female owner of the heifer was present there and she appeared to be an aged woman who was poor. What eye witnesses said was that soon after the accident took place my brother had halted the car and coming to the scene had with the support of those who were there removed the animal from the road. Because of both fore legs of the animal had struck the bonnet of the car, a bone of one of the legs was damaged and broken and was protruding. Even at the time I had gone there my brother had put the bone back in order and was in the process of applying stitches on that part. A technician of the Colombo National Hospital who had seen the accident had hastened to come to the spot and had gone to fetch the medicine and surgical instruments necessary by going to Ja Ela and had provided assistance in that instance and apart from that a certain gentleman closeby at an electric workshop too extended his support.

In the end, after a successful operation the owner of the animal took the animal away by conveying her merit and blessings. It was after that that my brother informed the Insurance people about the vehicle and it was then that he saw the damage sustained by his vehicle too. A part of the engine was damaged in a manner that the car could no longer be activated. After that, it was loaded into a lorry and taken to a garage. What is important here is that even though this accident happened without any fault of the person concerned and leaving aside the point of right and wrong he had without giving thought to his vehicle or without thinking of the journey he was involved in had instead dedicated himself to the initial task of saving the life of the animal.

"My brother you who gave your knowledge of surgery to humans and beasts alike ... I have no words to say. Finally, what I have to say is that even if possessing Rs. 120 lakhs, one cannot be an affable person; but one should possess the quality of Metta which could be bestowed on all human and animal posterity which goes beyond that".

Mothers who do not undergo birth control operations at Dambulla Hospital ... not to be discharged

Mothers who do not undergo birth control operations at Dambulla Hospital ... not to be discharged

An incident is reported where mothers who give childbirth are forced to go in for birth control procedures at Dambulla Hospital.

Usually the desire to go in for another child or not happens according to the discretion of the mother or her husband. However, this particular hospital has adopted a procedure where every mother who delivers a new baby is made aware in a compulsive manner about birth control and subsequently only those consent to such an operation are
granted permission to leave hospital premises while the others are made to remain back. As a result of this some mothers who undergo an indisposed condition after childbirth have even been subjected to inconvenience and a suspicion has emerged as to under whose necessity this form of methodology of birth control procedures are being effected. A complaint has been forwarded to Mr. Charles Nugawela, Director of the hospital and what he has informed the media is that this incident is true and that inquiries would be made about those responsible for making this influence. The video in relation to the incident, from below

Inquiry into lady-doctor of Dambulla Hospital who influenced birth control

Central Province Minister of Health Bandula Yalegama has informed the media that an inquiry has been launched in connection with the lady-doctor who issued rules and regulations beyond authority in respect of birth control at Dambulla Hospital, which led to an uproar in this regard.

This lady-doctor who is supposed to have influenced mothers to proceed with birth control methods after childbirth is someone who has
secured a transfer to Dambulla Hospital from Ratnapura Hospital about a fortnight back and inquiries are underway to find out whether this form of influence was exerted by her on mothers during her tenure at Ratnapura Hospital, he had said further.

After allegations were targeted at her that mothers who gave childbirth at Dambulla Hospital have been prevented from leaving the hospital after being discharged and instead were forced to go through birth control processes, an inquiry was begun under the direction of Director of Health Services of Central Province Mrs. Shanthi Samarasingha together with the co-operation of the Central Government.

It is understood that a birth control operation should be carried out with the agreement of both the husband and the wife concerned and that no doctor has the right to make any influence in that regard. A permanent birth control method as well as a temporary birth control method is available and more influence has been made on the temporary birth control methods at the hospital without a knowledge of all parties. Though doctors prescribe a period of suspension after one childbirth before the next childbirth as a suitable option making compulsory influence with regard to birth control without creating an awareness for the mothers has turned out to be a problematic situation.

The Minister of Health concerned in this case emphasised that the Central Government has the authority to mete out punishment to the lady-doctor if found guilty in this matter. The Director of Dambulla main hospital, Dr. Charles Nugawela remarked that a special examination has been initiated about the allegations made.

What Wasana said those days about Chaminda Vas who left wife and three children

What Wasana said those days about Chaminda Vas who left wife and three children

After much popularity was given by the media in various ways about family life of well-known personalities, on the occasion when they have a drastic change, how such things can ever happen is a question that is often posed to readers.

The fact that reputed cricketer Chaminda Vas abandoning his wife and 3 children and then entering into a marriage once again is another piece of news for the common reader  which
astounds them about these famous people. Chaminda Vas who was the father of 2 sons and 1 daughter is understood to have lost interest over his first marriage from a number of years back.

Chaminda -- Wasana were a couple who even clinched a prize some years ago at a contest where the most charming husband and wife cricketing couple were chosen. During that time they had expressed some wonderful and attractive ideas about family life. But of late everything has taken a different twist. During the period Vas was on a coaching stint in Ireland he had come across a lady by the name of Bernie de Alwis with whom he struck up a friendship which later blossomed into romance and finally ended up as a marriage. Vas has left his former wife, daughter and 2 sons where the marriage existed for 16 years and has now started a new family. Only the two of them know to what extent the reasons were justified in this case. Whatever it is, Sri Lankans who have heard the fantastic earnings and luxurious liver of cricketers may not be surprised about all this. It is however pertinent to delve into the ideas expressed at a newspaper interview by both Vas and his wife some years prior to this. (The following interview was published in the year 2010).

Questions posed to Chaminda and his responses
----------------------------------

* Being busy means a person being kept away from one's family ... is it so?
That's true. But after I kept away from Tests, much of my time was saved. That time saved ... I spent on behalf of my wife and children. At that time I lived very much close to them. Actually a family life spent that way is indeed wonderful. As such what I always try to do is to do that properly.

* But popularity is something where external influences have an impact on family life ... isn't it?
When married and when is a father of his children, what comes first is to find out about one's own family and to see to his duties. Since that responsibility is fulfilled by me, there's no unnecessary problems between us.

* What support do you render on behalf of your children and wife in domestic matters?
In most instances it's I who bathe my children. Things like dressing them up and taking them to school are done by me whenever possible.

* Did you ever think that you could handle this sort of responsibility at the time you were a bachelor?
Truly speaking it never occured to me at that time. After getting married ... when getting children ... everything changes. I don't like to keep to myself after transferring everything to my wife as such.

* Was there any special reason to choose your wife?
It was before I became a professional cricketer thtt I met her. She's someone who leads a normal life. We are affectionate to each other as we were at the beginning.

-------------------------------

Questions posed to Wasana and her responses

* What do you think about being Vas's wife?
I am very proud. Because of that a lot of people look up to me too. What I like most is many people talking good about him.

* What type of qualities does Vas possess?
Chaminda is a very good husband. However much he's busy, he loves and cares about us. Actually I am proud that I am his wife.

* There are instances when the boy friend becomes the husband and the sweetheart becomes the wife. Do you also have such experiences?
Yes ... I do. That's why he became a lot better person after he got married. During our courtship period he used to lose his temper a lot. Those days even if I got a bit late, he used to get upset ... loses his temper. But after marriage all that changed. What he's trying is to avoid doing anything that hurts me. After we got our daughter he changed a lot. It's the same after we got our sons.

* What type of bond does Vas have towards the children as a father?
His world is the 3 children. He loves the children very much. Those days I didn't tell him much about domestic responsibilities ... because he used to get upset very much. Just as much as he knows about Cricket, he knows how to attend to domestic work well too.

* When father is away from home how do the children feel about it?
Daughter has of course got used to it since she's big. The two sons really feel it ... specially the elder son finds it difficult to bear it.

* Do you share your domestic routine?
That which concerns the small ones ... it's not necessary to tell him. He even washes the milk-bottle.

* There can't be moments that your heart didn't skip a beat in the case of responses by his fans ... isn't it?
It was difficult to bear it at the time when I was his girl-friend. After getting married of course I understood it. Chaminda knows how to associate them and what distance to keep from them when it came too close. Therefore I have no fear about it.

* Because Vas is a popular figure don't you feel jealous at the time he's away from home?
That thing called sincerity should be well maintained when it's a family. That's the bond between us. Now it's 11 years since we are married. That sincerity has never been broken.

I also married a second time ... didn't learn music from father -- Lelum

Regarding the uproar that flared up in relation to singer Victor Ratnayaka, recently it was his son Lelum Ratnayaka who was most prominently involved and after the dialogue that ensued within society about his father he had this time admitted that he too had got married twice. He had also mentioned on that occasion that he learned music because of his father and that he did not glitter either. However he mentioned that the above-quoted ideas were stated by him
not because of any greediness for wealth and that he was bestowed with everything that his father inherited. Following is how he gave his ideas when interviewed by a radio channel:

"What I told was about my father and not about the singer called Victor Ratnayaka. Just as much as others, I still love that singer. I am not a person who plays casino; but attend clubs of some quality for the sake of music programmes. Father has finished giving us all that we wanted. So I don't want to take even a cent from him. Actually I am also a person who got married twice. In my earlier marriage because I couldn't get on living together, I dropped her. Later I got divorced. I then met someone who clicked with me and I married her. Now we are living a wonderful life. All the people are not hundred to hundred percent complete.

Really if someone says that I came to the limelight because of father ... it is false. I am a drummer. It wasn't father who taught me to play drums. He hasn't even taken me to watch concerts when I was small ... didn't even introduce Amaradeva Master. It was on the sly that I went to see concerts. But there can be music in our blood and veins. That skill may have dawned like that".

It is in the following manner that Lelum presented his skills by joining in a musical programme in Rupavahini at a time when there was no problem like this. At the programme he does not speak even a word about his father. It is as follows:

"No age for love" revealed by his own words at overseas concerts of showing how Victor's ideas took a different turn after meeting lover

It was reported that Victor Ratnayaka's new marriage that took place creating a sensation during the past few days was an instance where it finally had to end up in that manner. At the time Hashini Amendra met him, he was in his 66th year while Hashini was passing through her young age of 24 years.

Someone enquiring with a positive attitude into this matter would observe that she has contributed herself by bringing on a fresh stimulant into Victor's life. Though Victor did not want to talk about
trends in romances in front of concerts in Sri Lanka he had wanted to air most of his independent opinions by voicing them out at overseas concerts before commencing singing. Whatever it is, it is to be observed that the above-mentioned traditional ideas later had become flexible on a topical level. Published below is a collection of two videos where he spoke during the staging of his concerts abroad. It is clearly understood how the traditional matters he spoke of have assumed a twist by the time he was enjoying the glory of his new romance, when delving into that topic.

What Victor said sometime back
"If during our time a girl had developed some love, something about ..... and if both wanted to meet each other ... it would be like a turtle trying to look at the sky through a tiny hole. I think that I need not talk much about the culture of Sri Lanka. But this situation is not so today. Can look straight in the face and talk ... can send SMS ... can send much more ... s ... sex matters. But oh god ... those days it was not so. I am not telling these things with jealousy in mind. The manner of behaviour and etiquettes that were there those days were obeyed by children of those days".

What Victor said recently
"It is imperative that fans like you who are abroad must be told about this ... but because it occurs whether I am now passing through an age should I be singing love songs. But does age count when it comes to singing love songs? In love no. Some have girl friends other than their own partner ... have a boy friend also no. So there's no distance for love ... not even an age. Can engage in love without taking romance into considering ... but must do so without getting hammered!" Videos of these two talks, from below

Drama where Dinesh who voiced his opinion on behalf of Wimal ... being ousted from parliament! (video)

When Speaker Karu Jayasuriya announced the decision that Jathika Nidahas Peramuna cannot be acknowledged as an independent party yesterday it created a commotion in parliament in which instance Dinesh Goonawardene, a senior member of parliament was unable to control his temper in the process.

Though the Speaker went on to explain matters that Jathika Nidahas Peramuna not being registered in parliament as a party ... there is no necessity to acknowledge it as a separate party and it was Dinesh
who was more concerned about it than Wimal who appeared there from prisons. In the midst of disturbances which prevailed on and on and finally under these circumstances the Speaker issued a Standing Order on Dinesh to vacate the House; but he still stuck to his seat continuously speaking in favour of his and Bandula's opinions. Later, after a proposal was passed in parliament MP Mr. Dinesh Goonawardene was ordered not to be present in parliament for a period of 1 week and was ousted from the House with the aid of the police and mace-bearers.

The parliamentary session which began at one o'clock still prevailed an agitated environment until about 4 in the evening. Initially the Speaker took steps to postpone proceedings for 10 minutes. Though proceedings recommenced even passing that stipulated time-period, it was impossible to proceed further because the House once again assumed a confused outlook. On such a protest Mr. Dinesh Goonawardene was ordered to leave the House for the first time and steps were taken to postpone proceedings for the second time. Subsequently when House resumed proceedings once more MP Mr. Dinesh Goonawardene stood his ground and his remaining in the House once again paved the path for a commotion as before. At this point the Speaker ordered the mace-bearers to remove Mr. Dinesh Goonawardene from the House. The Speaker once again took action to postpone proceedings for the third time. Subsequently the House resumed proceedings later and MP Mr. Dinesh Goonawardena still remained in the House on which occasion the Speaker made a decision to take a vote in that situation from members of parliament.

At this point the vote was passed with a majority favouring the decision that his parliamentary activities be suspended for a period of 1 week. 22 voted against the decision were given while 85 votes were received in favour. After parliamentary activities were thus suspended for 1 week, MPs of the United Opposition walked out of the House. The video of the situation that transpired, from below

How Lelum who condemned his father in his talk ... subsequently shammed it up himself

Lelum made a statement yesterday that his father did not teach him anything about music; that he was not introduced to anybody in that field, that he learned music in secret amidst taboos and became a drummer. But 2 years before this he had appeared before a Rupavahini channel and has told a different story in the presence of his father and brother. What he says on that occasion is that what brought him to the position that he is now in is scholarly association with the Arts and the education
he and his brother had been bestowed from his childhood with his father taking a prominent stand in that context.

He also added that at the age of 4 and a half years when he tried to get on top of a Serpina and sing, he was given the first lesson of respecting musical instruments by his father and that he was involved in singing on a number of occasions at a later stage from the connections his father had. He also gratefully mentioned that the name Lelum Ratnayaka was first made more popular by the song "Paawa thiya Budu Saduta" he sang in the tele-film 'Amba yaaluwo' during his schooldays also as an influence of his father's connections. Saranga -- Umali affair and media which makes a mountain of a molehill

Saranga -- Umali affair and media which makes a mountain of a molehill

What circulates around some websites and social media these days as an interesting piece of news is that popular tele-actor and tele-actress duo Saranga Disasekera and Umali Tillekeratna's marriage has gone on the rocks. Misuse by some media coining various fictitious stores in relation to this topic and without proper evidence has been observed as resorting to an act of making a mountain of a molehill.

The Saranga -- Umali wedding took place exactly 3 years before this in the month of March 2014.
They had decided to have the wedding on a grand scale by having 3 functions while incidentally Umali happened to be the daughter of a well-known and affluent person connected to Sri Lanka's tea industry. Even during the period the wedding was conducted, Umali had been engaged in studies in Japan and even after marriage she had to attend educational activities there alone, most of the time.

Saranga on the other hand was a busy character as an announcer and actor and it was not surprising that the two of them during their numerous work schedules to stay at two locations. Umali's father even took pains to get down Saranga to Japan in March 2016 with the purpose of commemorating the second wedding anniversary. Both members of this couple who pinned faith on each other's capabilities within society being accepted as an innocent couple had thus advanced forward in life and on the other hand did not in the process try to grab any unnecessary media publicity either.

Saranga on a number of occasions has been fortunate enough to clinch the Best Actor award reserved for the position of the Most Popular Actor and Umali too had been present on most such instances being overjoyed and has further expressed her happiness over his success. Whatever it is, an argument has flared up between the two over a certain issue, as reported some months prior to this. This in fact happened to be an internal matter of friction which really was not connected to any external source as such. The problem however receding beyond limits, Umali has under these circumstances gone to her father in Japan with some displeasure in her mind. However It was the idea of both her family members and that of his family too that time will be a cure for this issue.

In the meantime , because of enquiries by friends on occasions where Saranga used to attend birthday parties etcetera, in the absence of Umali showed up continuously, rumours began to rear its head to the effect that there is some friction between Saranga and Umali. This piece of news has been confirmed by fictitious stories being associated with squirrels and closest of friends that the news has been understood by certain websites and social media.

Saranga these days is preparing for a concert in Australia. The said fiction-writers have made an attempt to involve Dinakshi in that group with the motive of coupling the two in the process and for the reason Shalani and Saranga happen to be lovers in a tele-drama so that they too could be coupled for this purpose. Saranga who was heartbroken because of these fictitious stories has expressed his displeasure across his Facebook Page.

The domestic problem between Saranga and Umali would be settled by the two of them. Everything would be settled as time passes. Published below is a collection of Saranga -- Umali wedding

I am also a married person ... home people were against this. But I love Victor -- Hashini Amendra speaks out

I am also a married person ... home people were against this. But I love Victor -- Hashini Amendra speaks out

Hashini Amendra the new wife of Victor who kept mum upto now has expressed her ideas to a weekend newspaper about the issue of Victor Ratnayaka's sons protesting against his new marriage which incidentally created an uproar throughout last week creating news in relation to this topic.

Hashini who presently resides in Victor's house in Oruwala has told the newspaper thus: "The affair between the two of us was there for quite sometime. The story that we got married recently is true. The marriage in fact was hastened because of the opposition of Victor Ratnayaka's children. My
hometown is Kandewatta, Galle. Those days I worked as an officer of People's Bank. I was married earlier. After a short period of time I had to give up that marriage. It was as a fan that I first came to know Victor Sir. After sometime our hearts became enveloped in love ... gradually. Even my parents strongly opposed this marriage. But we stood undaunted. I love him and he too loves me. Though there is a big age gap between the two of us, it's no hindrance to love and marriage. We have an understanding and we love each other.

In the former era we were united as a family. I have only 2 elder sisters. When the connection was sniffed by home-people, they strongly opposed this. Our affair is about 6 years now. My mother has said that I liked Victor's songs from my childhood. I am 31 and Victor is 75 years old. But I don't feel a thing about the age difference ... we are so much attached to each other.

At the start I developed a devotion and respect for him. I studied Western music. I love local music also. I got attached to Victor even without feeling it myself and that turned into a love. Though everybody was against us we remained steadfast. Now we're happily married. Just as much as those who opposed our union, there are others who wished us and blessed us in a friendly way too. Since I associated Victor for a long time, I know very well how much of a sensitive character he is. This association may have been a bond in Samsara ... that's why we got so close to each other like this. Not only in Sri Lanka and not only those connected to the Arts in other countries as well and as those who have a big age gap; they have embraced themselves in love. We enjoy life so happily. Getting a person like him, I consider as something fortunate thing in my life. The other thing is that it's more than 13 years since Victor lost his wife. Necessities and wants of his children have been fulfilled no. So what I think is that nobody has an issue to talk about. The feelings I have about Victor is love, respect and devotion ... if I say it's a mixture of everything ... it'll be correct. I look after him well.

* When you think of your future ... do you think that the decision to marry Victor is correct?
More than my future ... I think of his well being. It's a great delight for me to care for him. It's with dedication that I do those things. Though he doesn't frequent temples all the time, I like his religious activities a lot. Buddhist philosophy is embedded  in his heart. Whatever anybody says, we live with understanding and love.

* You encounter this many obstacles and conflicts because of this unconventional love, is it so?
Conflicts, obstacles are plenty in romance. Of course there isn't a legal taboo for us to unite no. If thoughts, ideas are similar; if there's no conflict between the two of us ... love can be victorious.

* It was not stated in the 'Daiva rekhawa' that Victor would marry again. Was this mentioned in the horoscope at least?
I can remember ... sometime back we went to Bambalapitiya to consult an Astrologer who came from India. That also we went at my own request. He explained everything to us from a CD. It was said in that the best period of Victor's life such as the most relaxing, enjoyable period would dawn after his 70th year. This prediction was made by a fortune teller who examined Victor's palm. That has come true by now.

We didn't tell anything to the media as such. Victor also doesn't like to talk about these things. This is our preference. Some media publish various things with the idea of slinging mud  and tell so many things. Marriage is a personal decision taken according to an understanding between two people.

In the end ... ASP goes to Qatar at the expense of Maithri

Mr. A.S.P. Liyanage, property developer who held the position of Nigeria's Ambassador during the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's administration obtained his appointment letter as the Sri Lankan Ambassador for Qatar. He would be reporting for duties as the Qatar Ambassador from forthcoming 15th.

During the last Presidential Election Mr. Liyanage even contested for the position of President as a co-ordinating candidate of Mahinda Rajapaksa and then became more popular because of an incident where he had given Peacock Mansion from Colombo to the defeated Mahinda. During those days he even filled sand to cover the swimming pool there to settle Astrological shortcomings by working on behalf of Mahinda, being well prepared for him at the same time. Whatever it is, because of the

During those days he even filled sand to cover the swimming pool there to settle Astrological shortcomings by working on behalf of Mahinda, being well prepared for him at the same time. Whatever it is, because of the rumours he himself circulated, news were published in newspapers that the said sand-filled swimming pool was used to hide certain valuable things, a 'drama' enacted after which police and court orders were enforced concluding that there was however no such thing hidden even after the sand was evacuated.

Whatever it is, rumours spread that this mansion was sold to the former President and FCID inquiries were carried out in that respect and thus Mr. Liyanage had to appear several times at the police. Subsequently, Mr. Liyanage took steps to 'change his feathers' by getting on stage and providing support to President Maithri at the SLFP anniversary and by even publishing advertisements in favour of Maithri against Mahinda. In this manner Mr. Liyanage who got involved in a 'changing over' type of politics and was a person who created news and presented Otthelo and Himi Ahimi over the Rupavahini including Peduru Saajjaya over TNL has now become a favourite of the new government, securing Sri Lanka's Ambassador post in Qatar.

Gura was brought here as an 'iththa' -- says Arjuna

Former cricket captain and present Minister Arjuna Ranatunga has said that there is a conspiracy at the background of electing Asanka Gurusingha in a mighty hurry as the new Manager of the Sri Lanka cricket team some days back.

During the period Sri Lanka was engaged in a tour of Australia, Asanka Gurusingha was met and the latter who was living in Australia had been involved in professional activities for the Marketing
sector of that country for quite some time. Thilanga Sumathipala and Dayasiri inclusive of other cricket authorities happened to have suddenly recalled Asanka to their memory and had promptly taken steps to get him down to Sri Lanka and to have him installed him in the position of Manager. Arjuna who spoke about this to BBC had this to say about it:

"Mr. Asanka Gurusingha is not aware as to what transpired in this game for 20 years. What kind of political mediations took place? What type of frauds were committed? What kind of unsuitable characters came into the game? These matters Mr. Asanka Gurusingha is not aware of. At the same time I categorically say that the present administration will not ever allow my brother player to carry out the proper duties necessary. Those in the administration put their political hands into this. They put sons of their friends to play. It happened yesterday and day-before-yesterday too. Because of that, the entire Board of Cricket has lost its goodwill.

What happens here is that old cricketers are utilised and a methodology of covering up actions of 'mud-slinging' is thus neutralised through that process. As such I would say with responsibility that all these players like Aravinda, Asanka and Sanath inclusive should either correct any fault in cricket or else keep away from it".

Victor speaks out in the end

Victor Ratnayaka the renowned singer who kept silent upto now after his son Lelum and his new wife Hashini who have expressed their ideas during the past few days has of late given an interview to Lankadeepa newspaper. During this interview he has spoken about numerous criticisms targeted at his personal life. This is what he said about it:

"Others may aim strong criticisms against the step we take. But as a Buddhist I have strength enough to develop indifference concerning the allegations made against me. I am a person who associate educated people and engage in
reading. In the same way I am a Buddhist who is attached to the dhamma and work accordingly. Under such circumstances even if we hear of something we feel, suffer or face as a shock ... I can bear it up. So is it with happiness. An artiste is someone who's always victorious ... won't feel excessive sorrow or happiness. What happens is, instead of being shocked by these ... it makes them acquire a new source of strength.

People in this country identify me as a musician and singer. I have always done them justice. Anybody has the right to criticise me only within the framework of music. I feel sorry about criticisms levelled at my private life and children. This is human nature. I work at those things with indifference.

The Wild Life officers who released the police constable that night itself had taken measures to release the brother and the other person early the following day (11) morning.

Members of the constable's family later had noticed the constable lying on the ground near the kitchen day-before-yesterday (11) morning and even by that time he had passed away. After the Karuwalagaswewa Police was notified of this incident, investigations were launched. An old insecticide vial, a mobile phone supposed to be belonging to him, a wallet of his and a motor bicycle was found close to where he was found lying. Officers who handled investigation activities however say that no smell of insecticide was observed as emanating from the police constable's mouth.

Mr. Fazal Abuthur, Puttalam Acting Magistrate visited the location of the incident day-before-yesterday evening and conducted an initial inquiry. Subsequently Puttalam Acting Magistrate instructed the Puttalam Judicial Medical officer that the postmortem be carried out on the dead body and to forward the report to courts. As such, police officers took steps to transport the body to the Puttalam Base Hospital. It has still not been revealed as to in which manner the police constable had died, police say. Karuwalagaswewa Police are conducting further investigations.

Further treatment being given at Welisara ...'Poddi' now cured -- Dr. Randil thanks everyone

Our website as well as several other places in the internet broadcast the incident where a calf which struck a vehicle of a doctor was wounded. Also that the doctor concerned promptly attended to the animal. The rest of the story of the surgeon of Maharagama Cancer Hospital Dr. Randil de Alwis who faced this incident has notified Gossip Lanka by thanking us by offering us
a bouquet in that regard.

What he had said was that 'Poddi' the calf is currently undergoing further treatment at Welisara Veterinary Institute and that its condition has now turned for the better. This is how he thanked those who reported this incident as well as everyone who cared to offer comments with words of praise:

"I must mention that I was not only surprised but was happy in a humble way to note that the news circulated about me in this connection across social media and various mass media and at that moment what I did was the best I could do and it was not for any other reason but because this animal too was a helpless being which had feelings and a consciousness just like us. What brought me happiness was the appreciation of all of you spotlighting my act at which point I realised that there are a lot of people still on this sacred land who understood the value of a life. 'Poddi' is currently in good condition and is undergoing further treatment at the Welisara Government Veterinary Institute. This undoubtedly would be a blessing to the social media and other media comrades who cared to highlight in society something beneficial and work towards social progress. Finally let this be a tribute the Sri Lankan community of doctors and also to all of you who understood and sense the value of humans or animals pleading for life by striving to offer a huge service that goes beyond earnings and last but not least for your invaluable appreciation ... !!!"
