Thrown wife and child into sea ....  to marry phone lover whom he had never seen!

 - husband's confession

An unfortunate incident was reported last Thursday of a father of 2 children who had tried to kill his wife and child by pushing them into the sea from a rocky plain of the coastal beach strip of Mahapelana, Induruwa, Kosgoda.

As a result of this incident his daughter aged 11 months was preyed upon by the sea while the wife was able to save her life with some injuries. This husband who is supposed to be a mason by profession has been so daring enough to murder his wife and young daughter because of the motive of marrying a woman with whom he was having an illicit connection, he had confessed. The most surprising factor in this case is that he had an attachment with her only over the phone and that he had never even seen her, which he admitted.

The 31 year old mason by the name of Samudra Priyankara who at present under police custody in connection with this incident says that he had got to know this woman with whom he had maintained this illicit attachment having got her number from his mobile phone in the month of October, 2014.

He says that she had initially reprimanded him on the wrong number he had dialled and that she had shown a green light on occasions that he had tried to speak to her after that and as time passed by, a love affair had developed between the two. He further says that he she is a mother of two children named Madhushani resident in Kurunegala and that upto then had not even seen her. He also mentioned that sometime recently his wife had come to know about this affair and having lost her temper she had destroyed the SIM in his phone. He had told police that he had decided to kill his wife over an agreement made with Madhushani that if he was to get close to her he had to murder his wife, who was a block for this purpose. Though he had not seen her figure, it was on Thursday last that he had set a plan to destroy his family for the sake of this unknown woman he had come to know over the mobile phone.

On the evening of the day of the incident he had told his wife that the boss of his workplace had suddenly made a request from him to bring some sand from the beach for a pooja at the kovil. Under these circumstances he had invited his wife to escort the youngest daughter leaving the elder daughter behind in the house and it was around 10 in the night that he had gone to the beach in Mahapelena, Induruwa, Kosgoda closeby on the push bicycle belonging to him.

After having asked the two of them to get on top of a rock close to the beach, he had all of a sudden asked that the child be given into his hands and that she had not agreed to it and had instead held the child tightly to herself, it was understood. In that instance he had as if insane had pushed both his wife and the child into the sea. Having thought that they had died after having fallen in the dark from the rock which was located about 30 meters from the beach had subsequently proceeded home on his push bicycle. Later the suspect had handed over a sum of Rs. 30,000 to his 7 year old daughter in the house and had thought of leaving the house, arranging his clothes when to his amazement his wife who had fallen into the sea had saved her life had returned home. After returning home the wife who was in a shock was admitted to hospital with the aid of neighbours.

On the statement given by her to the police the criminal offence committed by the husband came to light and the police who launched a search operation for the suspect the latter was taken into custody with the support of three-wheel drivers when he was getting down from the bus near Kaikawala Junction.

The dead body of the female infant was found washed ashore a day after she had been pushed into the sea. The woman who was suffering from a shock has now come back to normal while the suspect-husband has been produced before Balapitiya Courts and has been remanded until the 30th. Kosgoda Police are conducting further inquiries.
