Youth climbs high tension pillar because of love affair issue ... causes whole area to go dark!

A commotion erupted yesterday because a young man climbed on to a high tension line pillar which had a capacity of kilowatts one lakh twenty thousand in Diya Bubula area, Hingurakgoda demanding that a problem which has occured in his employment because of an involvement in a love affair which warrants settlement.

 The young boy maintained his protest for close upon 15 hours and villagers made various attempts to
rescue the boy while the police too mediated in the process and took steps to disconnect the power supply to the entire area and anyway managed to bring him down, thus rescuing his life.

 It was one Niroshan Ruwan Gamage, a 22 year old youngster from Hettiwatta area in Rakwana who tried this stunt of protest. He had climbed this high tension line pillar starting from day-before-yesterday (03) evening and had begun this protest saying that a problem has cropped up and in which instance after his romance would come to be known to his place of work, a rice mill, there is a possibility that he would have to forego his job. Because of this personal problem of his, electric power had to be disrupted in Polonnaruwa and several places in the East. After he was rescued he was taken into custody and is expected to be produced before courts.
