Suspicion of how husband's shirt changed after murder of his wife and mother of Hungama!
A host of information has been revealed by now about Suriyagama Hungama mother and pregnant daughter who were brutally murdered, as uncovered by police investigations.
On the day of the fatal incident, the 2nd of this month, victims 72 year old Siriyawathi Kariyawasam and her 35 year old daughter Yamuna Kariyawasam had been getting ready to visit a relative's home in Piliyandala and after that to proceed
to a medical channeling service for which they had reserved a time. Yamuna who was murdered had been getting ready for her first childbirth and the foetus was just 5 months old, it was revealed. Sampath (36) who was without job was hoping to find employment after following a course in air-conditioning and refrigeration at 'Hambanthota Tec'. There had been friction between Sampath and his wife during the past few days and had got involved in arguments with the deceased mother-in-law too, evidence was revealed at inquiries. As contradictory statements of Sampath on the day of the accident aroused suspicion of the police, a strong element of suspicion has sprung up as to whether there is a connection to him in relation to this murder. At the time Sampath visited the police he was dressed in a T-shirt while at the time he went to Tec, he had been dressed in a shirt. "I went to Tec and came home rather early. After coming on the scooter I was removing buttons on my shirt and was going inside the house. Then I saw my wife and her mother fallen on the ground bleeding. After removing the shirt and throwing it inside the house I went and told the uncle next door. He also came and after having a look, told me to go to police. It was after that I came to police".
While investigations were being carried out inside the house of murder, as stated by husband of Yamuna, the murdered victim he had produced the shirt hidden by him in a box of the scooter. When the police questioned him at that point he was without an answer, police say. What caused suspicion was the reason for the attempt to go and hide the shirt when an incident of this nature had taken place. In the same way when investigating how Yamuna Kariyawasam's husband had left the premises of the vocational training institute it was found that he had left without permission and that on other days when he had left he had obtained permission, police were able to understand.
On initial judicial medical examinations conducted it was revealed that there were about 11 cut injuries on Yamuna's abdomen region and other places in her body while her mother had sustained about 20 cut injuries on her body. It has been suspected that a knife about 2 cms wide had been used for this murder. Though the impression given was that a person who wanted to engage in looting activity of the home; would a person who so wanted to burgle be inclined to commit a brutal murder of a of this type? This was which attracted the attention of the police. As the murder of the pregnant victim had been committed focusing special attention on her abdomen so as to damage her foetus, it has been deduced that this crime has been carried out on purpose.
According to the scent of police official dog Jessy, it has been possible to detect a container with gold jewellery and an axe in the plot of land where the house was situated. On all 3 occasions that the police dog sniffed at those items, he had stopped at one and the same place in that plot of land. There had been a water tap at that location and it has been found that the person who had committed the murder had washed his blood-stained-hands from that tap. Those blood-stains and and finger prints detected from the house have been directed for analysis. As reported, the husband of deceased 72 year old Mrs. Siriyawathi Kariyawasam too had died as a result of stab injuries in Baddegama, Galle about 25 years before this. From that point onwards it had been she who had handled all affairs of the family, it is revealed. About 4 police teams have been launched for inquiries in this respect and investigations are underway.
