Socialist Front Leader Kumar Gunaratnam released after an year's jail sentence
The leader of the Socialist Front party Kumar Gunaratnam was sentenced to one years jail term for remaining in he country without a valid visa.Today after completion of his period he had been released from jail
According to Pubudu Jagoda the publicity secretary ,Kumar Gunaratnam has been issued
with a temporary visa to remain in the country.It is also reported that Kunar Gunaratnam has applied for citizenship from the controller of immigration and emigration.It is learnt that to get a decision on it it would take a period of about one month. Kumar Gunaratnam is a citizen of Australia.For the offence of staying in Sri Lanka without a valid visa he was arrested at his mother's place in Kegalle district almost over one year ago.
Kumar Gunaratnam was originally a member of the Jathika Vimukthi Peramuna. But the leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramunalate Somawansa Amerasinghe had added that he does not know who Kumar Gunaratnam is.
It is said that if he makes a solid request for dual citizenship it would be considered according to the Minister SB Navinna who had said in parliament.
