Rs 25000/-fine for 07 main  traffic offences

The Minister of transport and civil aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva and Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake had stated addressing a media briefing in Colombo yesterday that the Rs 25000/ fine would be for 07 major traffic offences./ These seven main offences are appended below;

For driving without a valid driving licence.
For giving room for driving without a valid driving licence.
Drunk driving
Driving at high speed
Driving without a insurance certificate
For overtaking from the left.
For not driving with caution near railway crossings

The Minister Ravi Karunanayake had stressed that the fines are imposed not to accumulate funds to the government but for the safety of road users and to discipline the drivers.

It is reported that the Chairman of the private bus owners association Gemunu Wijeratne and a number of other private bus associations had agreed to this penalty increase.
This proposal would be fully implemented after it is tabled in the parliament.
