Husband sentenced to death for mercilessly beating and burying pregnant wife alive
A former sports adviser of the Sri Lanka Army had been found guilty of beating his pregnant wife mercilessly and burying her while still alive by the authorities of the Anuradhapura courts.
This conviction had been confirmed,ed by the North Central area Magistrate Manjula Tillekeratne who had sentenced him to death.The person who had been sentenced had been a residen
t of Mahavillachchiya,Pemaduwa Gulupeththawa a 41 year old a former sports adviser of the Army by name Rankoth Pedige Devasena Samarakkody. The other indictment against the former Army sports adviser was for killing and burying the body of his wife for which he was sentenced to eight years rigorous imprisonment.This punishment was also give by the same magistrate Tillekeratne.Further to them the defended was asked to pay a sum of rupees five thousand as a fine.If the fine was not paid his would be given an extended sentence of three more months.
Before the verdict was delivered the Magistrate Manjula Tillkeratne had added that the evidence of the plaintiff had been spot on and there was no doubt about the manner the defended had committed the murder.
For the plaintiff the government attorney at law Dammika Udawatta had appeared while for the defendant the attorney appointed bu the government Amila Kolonnaarchchi had appeared'
