Chairman of Avante Garde who was arrested by Bribery Commission bailed out in the evening
The Chairman of the Avante Garde Maritime Company Nissanka Senadhipathi and the former Major General Palitha Fernando who were questioned by the Bribery Commission had been
arrested by them at around 3.30 pm on the 6th instant.This was for crediting a sum of rupees 355 lakhs to the custodian account of Palitha Fernando as an act of bribery However the attorneys at law appearing for Nissanka Senadipathi had said that as his account was not a private account but only and not classified as a custodian account and is a legal transaction and was not a bribery.
The motion containing this fact had been taken to the residence of the Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya.The Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya had ordered the two be released in the evening itself on bail on payment of Rs 2 1/2 lakhs of rupees each and body bail of Rs 10 lakhs each.
