Only limited amount of external students could sit the GAQ examination
It is reported that the authorities of the University Grants Commission are to restrict the number of those seeking registration for external diplomas.
It is learnt that the external students would be registered only according to the number of vacancies
that exist in the respective faculties of the universities. This decision has been clearly made known in the circular No 2016/13 issued by the authorities of the university grants commission. This will come into affect from the 1st of October.
With the intention of making the external degrees more in quality wise during the past government Minister SB Dissanayake the Minister of higher education had made the number of students entering the faculties to be half that of the undergraduates in the different faculties.Hence the students who want to register at the university grants commission were restricted. When severe protests were made the officials of university grants commission had to withdraw this rule.
This was made as the fact that an injustice had happened to the students in rural villages was put forward..
However there is still protest for this from the internal sources of the universities in restricting the number of students registering at the university grants commission for admission to the universities.
