Emirates informs that Karu Jayasuriya was offloaded from the plane for his own safety

It was reported that the other day after Speaker Karu Jayasuriya had boarded an Emirates plane from the Katunayake International airport, bound to Singapore on a private visit to obtain medical treatment for a heart ailment. Unfortunately the Emirates crew had decided to offload him after he had taken his seat causing a severe embarrassment to him.

Karu Jayasuriya had however boarded a Singapore Airlines flight after 12 hours bound to Singapore.

In regard to the embarrassment caused to the Speaker he had expressed his concern and written to the Ambassador of United Arabic Emirates. The Ambassador had requested the authorities of the united Arabic Emirates to send an apology to the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya. Accordingly the authorities of the Emirates airline had apologised to the Speaker.

In this letter under reference it has been stated that the Speaker was offloaded from the aircraft for his own good. The reason was that it had been said that the purpose of travel was to obtain treatment for a sudden heart ailment. At that time the authorities of the airline have not had  responsible medical personnel on board the aircraft.

 However had they known that fact a responsible medical personnel could have been arranged on the flight. According to the rules of the airlines in an event of an emergency in such a situation a passenger with a sudden heart ailment cannot be flown in an aircraft.

However if this fact was made known to them they would have been equipped  with first aid in case of an emergency by communicating with “Medi Link”. The action taken by the aircraft crew was according to the laws in relation to the safety of passengers.

Nevertheless the emirates airline company has apologised for this decision in offloading the Speaker.

It is has confirmed later that the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya had been suffering from a bacteria related infection and not a heart complication.
