Sri Lankan gem merchant robbed Rs 111 m worth gems at Hong Kong transit
It is reported in Hong Kong newspaper services that a Sri Lankan has been robbed of gems to the
value of Rs 111.84 million when approximately 750 gem stones that he was carrying had been robbed while in Hong Kong transit.The person who had lost gem stones has been identified as a gem merchant from Beruwela ,Mohamed Asan Mohideen Abdul Cader. This person with this stock of gem stones had been returning from the United States of America after participating in the gem exhibition to Sri Lanka via Hong Kong had lost the gems he was carrying while in transit in Hong Kong .
This gem Merchant has had to stay 14 hours in transit in Hong Kong when this theft had taken place. During this period of transit the gem merchant had gone to the Iskware shopping to purchase something when this theft had taken place.
It is reported that he has had in possession various types and sizes of gemstones and in them there had been very valuable blue sapphires.
It is reported that via CCTV cameras two persons who were responsible for this robbery has been identified and the Hong Kong police are on the lookout for the robbers.
