Three wheeler owners hail the decision taken by the government to obtain emission tests from private sector
The other day a decision was taken by the government to allow the SLTB to obtain via a tender procedure to conduct all emission tests of vehicles in the country. The brain behind this exercise was the
deputy minister of transport Ashoka Abeysinghe. This decision was subjected to a lot of concern and dislike from many sectors.,the three wheeler sector in particular.Hence they had protested over this decision saying that how could the SLTB undertake a huge task of this nature. This was because they are unable to do same owing to lack of proper facilities and the required technology.
Owing to these protests the government had changed the previous decision and had allowed the private sector merchants to carry with the performing of the emission tests as previously and for the SLTB to have the emission tests for their buses.
The chairman of the all island three wheeler association Lalith Dharmasekera has hailed and appreciated the decision of the government in allowing the private sector to conduct the emission tests as before. In this connection the chairman had said that the government should encourage such private sector enterprises for the benefit of the country.
