Gammanpila & Bandula in bag-trouble in Geneva
Members of Parliament Udaya Gammanpila, Bandula Gunawardena and Dalas Alahapperuma had set off from on three flights separately to hand over to hand over a petition against the FCID to the Inter Parliamentary Union in Geneva, Switzerland office. It is common practice for passengers travelling in an airplane to collect the small hand-
luggage retained by him or her near one's custody at the time of landing while the large bag containing clothes is directed to the plane for transport separately.Though awaiting their bags at the relevant place in the airport until the luggage arrived and all others had collected their luggage and gone their way, only Gammanpila's bag was seen missing. He had thus become confused and taken action to enquire from airport Geneva officials saying that he needed his luggage before going to the hotel and had queried as to what happened to it.
What came to light at that moment was that they had forgotten to load Gammanpila's baggage into the plane at Katunayaka. Whatever it is, Gammanpila had made up his mind and had proceeded to the hotel because the necessary documents and some clothes were in his hand-luggage, it was reported.
The second incident took place in the case of Bandula Gunawardena who landed in Geneva a few hours later. He too had remained at the the relevant spot until he received his baggage and had come to know that it had disappeared in his case also. It is because his items such as his toothbrush upto his underwear were all that was in that baggage. Bandula's hand-luggage had contained only the passport, air tickets and some other documents of minor importance. He also was informed that his baggage too was missing after being loaded to the flight in Katunayaka and so he had gone to the market in Geneva and purchased basic essential items and proceeded to the hotel.
In the case of Dalas who went to Geneva of course his baggage was recovered without any fuss and the three of them had arrived at the main office of Geneva's Inter Parliamentary Union dressed in somewhat of a strange attire the following day, it was reported. Gammanpila once again had worn the national costume which he wore when coming on the flight with also a coat bought on arrival, on top of the national dress.
