Southlands schoolgirl assaulted by Old Girls ....
during protest demanding Principal!
A commotion took place in Galle today during a protest staged by a group of Old Girls against action taken to transfer the lady Principal of
Southlands Girls' College in Galle. A student of Southlands who had been expelled by that Principal had been at close quarters to where the protest took place and had been trying to video the protest from a camera angle when some Old Girls who approached her had tried to assault her asking, "Who are you"? At that moment some males who were around had taken steps to settle the dispute and subsequently the lady who was involved in assaulting her was taken into police custody, it was reported.Shanthi Seneviratna who was the Principal of Galle Southlands College was subjected to suspicion during the past because of irregular activities while a case against her is presently being heard for not having admitted a student to the school and had tried to secure a bribe thus violating the law. Another Principal had been installed in that school on behalf of her during the first week of March and this former Principal was instead affiliated to the Southern Province Educational Office.
When circumstances were such, this Principal who was subjected to suspicion had taken action to hold a Development Committee meeting in the meantime; but the Lanka Guru Sangamaya had voiced that such action is against the law and the meeting was later abrogated. This particular protest had been organised by a set of Old Girls who had been involved close to her and had done so with a strong motive of recalling her to service.
The student who became a victim of the assault too happens to studying in that same school and she also had been unjustifiably expelled by this same Principal, it is said. Watch the video depicting the student being assaulted, at 3.46 minute:
