Johnny granted bail after attending courts for 05 cases on assets and liabilities
One of strong Ministers in the Mahinda Rajapaksa government Kurunegala Member of Parliament Johnston Fernando had evaded courts for 05 cases pertaining to his assets and liabilities statements not been furnished had been finally granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate courts.
The Bribery and corruption commission had filed action against the former Minister Johnston
Fernando for not submitting his assets and liabilities statements for the period 2012 to 2015 in five cases.The Chief Magistrate of the Magistrates courts Colombo Gihan Pilapitiya had allowed former Minister Johnston Fernando bail when he presented himself for these cases.He had been asked to pay Rs 10,000/ each for the five cases and also body bail of rupees ten lakhs for each case and has been banned from going abroad without permission from courts and had been asked to appear before courts again.
The Magistrate had requested him to furnish his all yearly assets and liabilities to the secretary general of parliament.
Johnston Fernando is accused of obtaining goods to the tune of rupees fifty two lakhs from the Kurunegala Lak Sathosa without making a payment during the period of the Wayamba election in the previous government. During the 100 day programme of the previous government consequent to a police complaint made in this regard he had been remanded and it is learnt that this debt was since paid by him.
It is learnt that Johnston Fernando is the owner of the VFM radio service, also the owner of several foreign liquor shops in Kurunegala and also the owner of a distillery.
