The suspect over the murder of garment-girl Ramya Vidarshani Abeywardena who was murdered recently in Dambagolla area in Mahiyangana was nabbed by police when he had taken poison, but now his health is in a satisfactory condition. After the magistrate paid a
visit to the hospital and made enquiries, the suspect was remanded further until next 17th and he has now been provided the opportunity of being treated at Mahiyangana Hospital under the security of prison officers.According to statements extracted from him, it has been revealed that he had been in ambush on the way and had abducted her while she had been returning home engaged in a dialogue with someone over her mobile phone after having got down from the bus on the day of this incident. When she was being abducted for the purpose of rape it is assumed that her shouts would have been heard by the person at the other end of the phone, it has been revealed. Whatever it is, the suspect says that the phone was switched off after carrying her away some distance.
Since it would be conducive for future investigations to get at the person to whom the deceased had been talking to at the last moment, the police had decided to obtain permission from courts for the connected mobile phone Company to carry out enquiries. The police have been able to recover two mobile phones belonging to her at the site of the murder.
