Ane ... I can't stay alone!
-- Wele Suda has yelled behind bars
Gampola Vidanage Samantha Kumara alias 'Wele Suda' who was sentenced to death last week for the offence of having drugs in his possession had managed to direct millions of rupees to a large number of prison officers during the period that
elapsed on the Easy Cash system and had thus paved the way for himself to enjoy comfortable environment inside his cell.
Though being a kingpin drug dealer, because of the royal facilities he enjoyed within the walls of the prison, he had led a life of better luxury than when he was outside, it is said. Whatever it is, news about this bribing has reached the ears of the higher authorities and as a consequence of investigations carried out, such luxury he enjoyed has now come to a standstill. As suspicion has been aroused that there could be a group of people supporting Wele Suda who has been sentenced to death within Welikada Prison, there is an arrangement in the offing for him to be transferred to another prison, it is reported. It was also understood that Wele Suda is presently detained in Cell Number 101 and that particular area has been made a place out of bounds. Prison Chief has instructed his officers to refrain from approaching his cell under any circumstances and therefore Wela Suda is now unable to live the life he previously enjoyed. Since there is no other companion for him in his cell, he has got disgusted with the life he now has to undergo in this lonely cell. He had shouted out saying, "Mata thaniyen inna beriyo!" (I can't stay all alone) and had said that he just cannot stay alone within that cell and to provide him with at least two other inmates, it is learned. However, prison authorities has rejected his request saying that his request could not be consented to, it was reported.
