Island wide shortage of salt

The retail marketeers had said that for sometime there had been a shortage of salt in the market. The demand has exceeded the supply over a period of time.As a result a kilo of salt that was sold for Rs30/- is now been sold for Rs 90/-

The wholesale merchants have added that this increase is because
those involved in manufacturing salt have increased prices. As the Hambantota salt producers are showing less interest private producers have commenced salt production in Puttalam area and hence the prices have gone up.They after production do the the distribution also.

The wholesale merchants have attributed this increase also owing to a increase in tax imposed by the government.Owing to the acute shortage of sugar the consumers have faced difficulties owing to shortages of salt in the market.

 Colombo Big Match Fever

Visakha, Devi, Sirimavo, S.P.M. and Anula girls ....

get into Royal Big Match truck ...?

Incidents about various fun-involved activities done for the sake of boyish pranks were reported throughout the past few days in and around Colombo schools connected to the Big Match Fever. It was also reported of an instance where police protection was
strengthened in girls' schools to prevent students from invading girls schools.

A somewhat of a heightened incident of these pranks was observed today and a Gossip Lanka reader has had the opportunity of capturing it on the camera. It was a scene where girls of leading Colombo schools too were noted inside a Big Match truck carrying students who made rounds in the city. When enquiring further it came to light that it in fact was boys who were dressed in uniforms of girls in girls' schools. Among those photos are some photos which could not be termed as deriving a form of innocent joy or fun by the male students concerned because of the manner in which uniforms of leading girls' schools were made use of in an anomalous way. It is because other students had resorted to feel the bodies of those who were so disguised as girls.

I play the game of cricket for myself

-- Lasith Malinga

Lasith Malinga the former captain of 20 - 20 yesterday voiced his opinion saying that he is not in a position to play on behalf of the country and that he always tried to play on his own personal behalf , but that in the end it influenced for a victory for the country. Malinda expressed these words during the
festival held yesterday (08) at the Sri Lanka Cricket Board prior to the Sri Lankan team's departure for the T 20 World Cup.

What Malinga said on that occasion was that he participated according to his conscience on behalf of the country for 12 years and that he entertains no hopes that he would get a place in the World Cup team. He also added that if by chance he would be offered a chance, he hopes to make maximum use of that opportunity and display his abilities.

"I hope to play in the first match in the World Cup. Since 14 best players are taking part for the World Cup I don't think that I would be able to enter the team at once. I also may have to sit on the bench and wait till I get the opportunity. If I get a chance ... it's not possible for me to play cricket on behalf of the country as such. I try to clinch wickets on behalf of my ownself. Something that I always think is that if I play cricket in a personal sense, it ultimately creates an influence for the sake of the country. If I get a match .... I hope to display my best. Whether it's for the sake of the country ... or for my sake; that is not relevant to me. If I am to retain my position as a bowler in the team, I should get wickets. If I am not able to get wickets ... I have no intention of remaining in the team. At the end of a match, there should be some wickets recorded under my name. Only then that I have done something for myself. That could influence the country in the end".
