Lady doctor of Kalubowila hospital commits suicide by hanging

A lady doctor attached to the Kalubowila Teaching hospital in Talangama, Kalalgoda  area had committed by hanging herself on to
a nylon cord hung on to a ceiling fan in her own residence. This incident has been reported by the Talangama police.

She had committed in this manner on the night of the 30th ultimo at her residence at Weera Mawatha,at Kalalgoda in Talangama.She is 36 year old Kalani Buddhima Jayasinghe a lady medical officer.The police had said that she is the mother of two sons aged 07 and 04 years.

The husband of the deceased lady doctor is also a medical officer also attached to the Kalubowila Teaching hospital. It is learnt that the lady doctor her husband and the two sons had been living at the lady doctors mothers residence in Gampaha most of the time.

On the day of the incident she had sent an sms to her husband at 1.35 pm after completing work that she is leaving to the Talawatugoda residence. The husband of the lady doctor thinking it was late for her to go to Gampaha had gone to the Kalalgoda residence .When he entered the house he had seen the body of his wife hanging from a nylon cord tied to the ceiling fan of a room.

With the help of the neighbours the doctor husband had informed the Talangama police. A letter written by her lately had been found by the police which had been stated that she cannot no longer bear the severe tension that is encountered after child birth.

The Kaduwela acting Magistrate had arrived at the scene of the incident and had ordered a post mortem to be carried out at the office of the Judicial medical officer in Colombo on the 01st instant.

The Chief Inspector of the Talangama police station Janaka Kumara  had ordered investigations  to be carried out by the Sub Inspector of police Nawaratne along with police Sergeant Sunil ( 51361).

One Senior Superintendent of Police ,Jaffna had added that he has suspicion in regard to the tragic death of a 18 year old Jaffna student  from Kokuwil area who had committed suicide by jumping on to an oncoming train leaving a letter written by him.

The police believes that some had forced him to write a letter to the effect that he is committing suicide as the LTTE suspected prisoners were not released. Hence in this connection a special investigation is to be carried out.This student had committed  suicide at a time when there was a protest organised  by the Jaffna university students and school children requesting the LTTE suspected prisoners to be released.

There is some speculation that for the findings of the Avant Garde floating armoury case former defence secretary and a few others are to be arrested.


In that event that happens Venerable Muruthettuwe Ananda thera and a group of Buddhist monks have
planned to take the streets. This had been said by issuing a notice by Venerable Muruthettuwe Anando thera.

Muruthettuwe Ananda thera had  added that the government is making attempts to make incorrect allegations in order to arrest Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.In this regard the thera had made arrangements over the telephone with several other Buddhist monks to join him in this protest if needed.

Incessant rains had fallen to South India causing floods in many areas including the Chennai airport which has made the Chennai airport
inundated. All fight from Bandaranaike International airport to Chennai have been cancelled .This has been notified by the  Sri Lankan Airline authorities.
The scheduled flights to Chennai on the 02nd and 03rd instant have been cancelled. As a result several pilgrims who had visited Chennai have been terribly inconvenienced.

Doctors Island wide to strike in protest against pruning of benefits




Protesting against the budget proposals the doctors attached to the GMOA and 16 other associations island wide have planned for a days strike on the 03rd instant from 8 a m.


The doctors are of the opinion that at a time when facilities for doctors should be enhanced the budget proposals for 2016 had  done otherwise in pruning the benefits they enjoy at present.

They say that they never had expected such changes from the budget and what they need is to withdraw all such changes made.

After the second reading of the budget 2016 ,the voting took place in Parliament. The government with 159 votes easily won with a majority of 107 votes with only 52
Members voting against it.The main opposition the TNA also voted for the budget 2016.

Comedian actor Sunil Hettiarachchi passes away

It is reported that the comedian actor  Sunil Hettiarachchi, who had taken part in many Tele drama and films  during the past several decades had passed away early this morning (the 3rd instant). It is learnt that he had been ailing for some time.

At the time of his demise he had been 78 years old. His relatives have not yet decided on the funeral arrangements and would notify  of it soon.

Garment factory girl in Mahiyanganaya raped and murdered

A girl 18 years old who had been returning home after finishing work at a Garment factory had been taken to  a jungle in Rideemaliyedda, Kaluketiyawa
area had been raped and murdered on day before yesterday the 01st instant.

The  18 year old girl who had been raped and murdered had lived at No 08 ,Wewaththa, Kannalkumbura. Her name is Basnayake Mudiyanselage Ramya Vidarshini Abeywardena.

The people of the area in Rideemaliyadde  Divisional Secretariat division had found a body in Kurala wela wasama .Aluthketiyawa Teak plantation on the morning of the 02nd instant. It is reported that this girl had come to her mother's brother's house in order to  travel to her garment factory at Rideemaliyadde, Kaluketiyawa area.

When she had returned home  in the evening after her duties at the garment factory the household personnel and neighbours had searched for her,. When they had found her mobile phone and the umbrella fallen near to her uncle's house they had informed the police who had  started to find her but had failed that evening.

The investigations in this regard are carried by the Assistant Superintendent of Police Mahiyanganaya Udith Liyanage the Officer in Charge of the Mahiyanganaya police station Inspector of Police Tissa Kumara, Officer in charge of crimes AM.Jayatilleke.But still no suspects have been taken into custody.

The former Member of Parliament of the Tamil
National Alliance Suresh Premachandra in an interview he has had with the world BBC programme had confirmed that a Executioner premises had been maintained at Jaffna Warani area by the Sri Lanka Army  and the photos of it are in his possession.

He had confessed that he was aware of this place at the time of the war but had not disclosed as it was not the time owing to the destructive environment that prevailed.T his fact he had revealed to the BBC  news programme. It was also added by him that even representatives of the United Nations had visited the place and they should know the truth  or otherwise of it,Former Member of Parliament Suresh Premachandra had revealed.

He had said that the media spokesman of the Army Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera refutes these.The media spokesman had said in contrary to the statement made by the former Member of Parliament such an Executioner premises had been maintained.

In defence of this statement the media spokesman had said the Army is now on different role in bringing about reconciliation and unity and had said that even the Army unit that existed at that place had been removed.

For the reason that a Sri Lankan house maid is to stoned to death after she had been found guilty of
having had a love affair a group of women in Batticaloa town had staged a protest carrying slogans.

 This protest had been sponsored by the "Suriya Kantha Organisation" and staged in front of the 'Gandhi' park in Batticaloa town limits.

It is reported that slogans with the wording " protest against stoning to death" had been carried by the protestors and also hand bills printed had been distributed as a part of the protest staged.

The protestors had drawn the attention of the President and the government to make an intervention to this injustice.

A campaign has commenced by the  authorities  bribery and corruption  commission together
with several civil organisations.

This campaign had commenced on the 03rd of December 2015  as an initial step from the  Bastian Mawatha in Pettah at 8.30 a.m.The Director General of the Bribery and Corruption Unit Dirukshi Dias the Commissioners in the unit, Deputy Minister of transport Ashoka Abeysinghe, The Chief Executive Office of CAFEE organisation  Keerthi Tennakoon,Shan Wijethunga of Transparent International and  several other representatives of several civil organisations had participated.

This campaign had got underway with the attaching of 'stickers' printed for this event in buses at Bastian Mawatha bus halt.In the afternoon the campaign was carried out in Galle and Matara areas.

It is proposed that on the 04th instant the campaign would be extended for the peoples awareness in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya.

Three teachers alleged to have beaten a DS student freed

In the year 2005 an assistant principal and two teachers attached to DS. Senanayake Vidyalaya who were sentenced to two years
imprisonment for alleged assault on a student. The  assistant principal and the two teachers had appealed against the verdict and after it was heard in the appeal court all three had been proved innocent as they had acted in self defence and  hence the sentence was withdrawn.

This sentence of imprisonment had beam made on the vice principal and teacher in charge of the science Gamini Wijesuriya and two teachers Shantha Kumara and Ariyapala.

It is learnt that the student in question had attended school in coloured clothing and had been needlessly loitering in the swimming pool area. When the assistant principal had questioned the student there had been an argument which had resulted in the student been beaten. In this context the Magistrate in the appeal courts had said that the student had been assaulted by the three teachers in self defence and hence for it a punishment like imprisonment is too huge and discharged them from the alleged incident.

The Moneragala district National Freedom Front Member of Parliament Padma Udayashantha Gunasekera had suffered a heart attack while the budget debate was on in Parliament on the 03rd instant and  had been admitted to the National hospital for medical attention.


Initially Member of Parliament Padma Udayashantha  Gunasekera after sustaining a heart attack had been referred to the medical officer in the parliament who had taken an ECG test. As the ECG report was not satisfactory the medical officer had referred him to the Colombo National Hospital and had been sent to the National hospital in the Ambulance belonging to the parliament.

It is reported that on a previous instance the Member of Parliament had suffered  a similar attack while in Moneragala. He had been then air lifted to Colombo National hospital for treatment.

Owing to the Island wide strike of the doctors normal work in 1084 hospitals scattered in the
country had been parlayed. Altogether 16000 doctors had participated in this token strike.

It has been reported that  work  OPD treatments, clinics and attending to needs of the patients in wards had been curtailed. In addition over 60,000 operations scheduled had not  been performed.

The association of the employees of Avant Garde who lost their jobs had their annual get together at the Vihara Maha Devi Park open air
on the 04th instant.

At this get together the convenor of the association of the employees of Avant Garde who lost their jobs Kamal Gamage had given a speech. In his speech he had  pointed a finger at Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and added that although he is now finding fault with the Avant Garde floating armoury he had accepted a sum of rupees  million fifty odd from Avant Garde as well as two jeeps that were presented to him..

The convenor Kamal Gamage had also quipped that the personal assistant of Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka retired colonel Kapila Ratnayake had received many privileges from Avant Garde.In addition he had been paid a sum of rupees 15 lakhs every month was what he had added further.

In addition the rent for his office premises had been paid by Avant Garde  and the personal assistant had been provided with vehicles on several instances and the proof of these had been shown to the media via sms messages and through voice tapes by the  union.
