Probe against eloped Principal and teacher at Mahanama College -- Update

A case of an incident of eloping was reported recently across the media where the Principal of a frontline boys school, Mahanama College in Colombo had eloped on the sly with a married  teacher of that school. Government authorities had commenced an enquiry into this matter. However, for some reason or the other it has now been diverted in a different direction, it was reported.

The Secretary of the Education Department, Mr. M. Bandusena has given a statement to the Daily Mirror newspaper last 9th saying that the Education Ministry has started an enquiry in this connection but that until the information in that respect is confirmed the results cannot be exposed. However what that Secretary has told the Rivira newspaper two days prior to that on last 11th was because that incident deals with a personal matter, no necessity has still arisen for the Ministry of Education to take any steps regarding that issue.

The Lanka Guru Sangamaya has expressed their criticism in this connection saying that since this is a case which is related to a disciplinary matter concerning a Principal of a prominent school in Colombo and the disciplinary and administrative activities of the school could suffer as a result and further this could turn out to be a detrimental precedent to other schools as well.

In the second statement given by the Secretary of the Education Ministry Mr. M. Bandusena he had mentioned that no complaint has been received by the Ministry and that because it deals with a personal issue, there is no legal possibility in mediating on this matter and though it is so, he is able only to enquire into press reports regarding the matter and look into the matter. The Secretary also added that if a court decision is given by the police, only then some action would be taken in respect of the said Principal and the teacher concerned for having violated disciplinary procedures. Though the Secretary has mentioned that further action cannot be taken with regard to the Principal, what Education Ministry sources reveal is that the husband of the said teacher has complained in writing to the Ministry of Education last week. It is stated in that complaint that a toddler aged one and a half years old who was in his custody had been abducted and that the child is now living with an aged father of two children.

Critics on Mahinda's Avurudu message -- Update

The Facebook Page 'Harin Fernando UNP' had made a criticism about a Facebook video message of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, which message was announced after the Sinhala New Year dawned. However, the Minister had made an announcement saying that it was neither he nor any member of his staff who is responsible for the said video. He also says that if under any
circumstances someone has been subjected to contempt that he expresses his apologies in that respect.

What amazes one is that some other individual is potential enough to maintain fake Facebook Accounts under the name of the very Minister who controls Digital Affairs and the ability of such an individual to make such serious comments.

This person who conceals his real identity had made a comment criticising that the former President was under liquor while this morning Minister Harin has announced that he has no connection with this allegation against him.

Balloon-joke at Diyawanna Avurudu

Various items of an entertainment value were presented at the Derana Diyawanna Avurudu Programme with the participation of politicians
on behalf of the Sinhala Avurudu this year.

When announcer Lanka who presented the programme was in the process of approaching each politician and was trying to question them about the competition and when she had got close to MP Mr. Rohitha Abeygoonawardena it had been observed that he had been involved in some sort of a gimmick with a balloon.

MP Mr. Welgama who was in proximity at that moment too was making an effort to display that very same gimmick to her. In the process, the announcer who was to see the manner in which the balloon was going up and down, bringing to memory some obscene interpretation as such actually caused some inconvenience to her. Later, she asked Mr. Buddhika Pathirana as to what really was taking place. As if to add spice to the query in the end, what he had said was that it was an illness that aging people get. An incident where Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera came forward to carry Minister Buddhika Pathirana the latter of whom incidentally found it difficult to go with the sack in which he was in was reported. Actually both of of them had participated in a 'goni' race held in the Derana Diyawanna Avurudu contest with politicians taking part in the festival. Though contrary to rules of the contest, Minister Dayasiri proceeded to lift up carry him by jumping out of his sack and by running across.

At the end of the race when the female announcer inquired about this funny race, one could hear interesting responses to that query. "Though most people were able to get Minister portfolios, Buddhika who though came first from Matara was not able to get even a post of Minister and because Buddhika is not carried on the shoulders by anybody, he had to be carried" said Dayasiri with Pavithra and Dilan joining in with Dayasiri.
