For the Pallemalala water issue villages clash with the police
In the Colombo Kataragama main road in Hambanthota, Pallemalala area when the Police
had wanted to stop a protest made by villages for a water issue there had been a tense situation between the villages and the police.It is reported that the police had to use the minimum power to disperse the angry protestors. It has been reported that angry villages had pelted stones and objects at the police personnel.
The police media unit had informed that the OIC of the Hambantota police and three other police personnel had received injuries. The unruly crowd had even damaged a bus it is reported.
The villages had commenced this protest this morning requesting to provide them with fresh drinking water.
Owing to this protest the Kataragama-Colombo main road had been subjected to a traffic congestion for a period.But it is learnt now that it is open to traffic without any barrier the police has reported.
