Seya's DNA is not compatible
17 year old student exonerated of guilt and freed
The 17 year old schoolboy and the father of a child who were taken into custody in connection with the murder of Seya Sandewmi which incident created a sensation all over the country were both freed by Minuwangoda Magistrate Courts today.
This decision was taken because it was revealed in Minuwangoda Magistrate Courts today that their DNA samples did not match in relation to the killing.
Even though the suspect known as Kondaya has already confessed that he had committed the murder of Seya, these two suspects were detained some days ago until this report was received and finally today they were legally freed of guilt. In the meantime the two of them were directed to the Negombo Hospital for a medical examination on the grounds of a complaint that the police had assaulted them while under detention.
When the 17 year old schoolboy and the other person were arrested it was publicized that they were ganja-smokers and those watching blue films and were thus condemned among the society. As such, a question remains unanswered as to the black-mark conferred on them even if they are freed and were to go back to their village. In this regard the 17 year old schoolboy's mother is to take legal action, it was reported recently.
