The massive ITN scandal on advertisements Mahinda places burden on Maithri
During the past presidential election for the advertisements that were telecast over the government television channel on behalf of the then President and the presidential candidate Mahinda Rajapksa a sum of over rupees 100 billion is owed to the government.
In this regard the officials of the Presidential frauds and corruption unit who are in charge to investigate large scale corruptions and frauds had sent a team of officers from this unit to the former President and the present Member of Parliament, Mahinda Rajapaksa'a residence in Mirihana on the 23rd instant to record a statement from him.
What Mahinda Rajapaksa had said was he was only a candidate of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance and hence it is a duty of the UOFA party to settle these bills.
He had said that the present President of the party is the present President Maithripala Sirisena and hence he should be the best person to answer to this query. This he had indirectly stated to the officers who questioned him.
However the leader of the team Lacil de Silva had stated that to question the former President in this manner on the ITN scandal was a victory for the team who visited the residence of the former President at Mirihana.
