Suspicion over Seya's mother Samanthi's mobile phone ...
being lost and later found
The police who are searching for the criminals of the murder of Seya Sandewmi of Gampaha Kotadeniyawa have still been unable to identify them distinctly and are investigating various facets in this connection and have now been baffled by the incident that Seya's mother's mobile phone which
had disappeared since the day of the incident has later has been found thrown in the vicinity of that house.
Seya's mother Samanthi is someone who is employed in the capacity of a teacher connected to weaving and daily goes to work. The mobile phone which she uses for her personal matters had been kept in the same room where Seya had been. Seya's mother and father who were mentally in a confused state on the day the child had disappeared even has had no idea that the said phone was not in the house. On the occasion that the body was found, during the course of investigations carried out by the police, they had wanted the number of Seya's pre-school teacher and at that moment Seya's mother Samanthi had searched for her phone and had then come to know that the phone had vanished.
As such when perusing through her phone to get at the data reports in it, it had been observed by the police that the phone had been inactive since Sunday when the dead body was found. This phone was not found even during the operations launched by the villagers and the police in combing the jungle area. Whatever it is, two days after the incident on Tuesday the phone was found in the compound of Seya's house itself. This then caused the police to develop some suspicion. Suspicion has arisen as to whether it was taken away by those who committed the murder and it is apparent that it had later been brought to the house and thrown into the compound. When it was recovered its battery and phone-parts had been found resting close to each other. The SIM too was found inside the phone. If at all there is a connection between the phone and the murderer, the murderer should without doubt be a person living in the neighbourhood, the police believe.
The 17 year old schoolboy taken into custody in relation to the crime was someone who was addicted to marijuana in the company of his friends and it is said that the villagers have identified the location where Seya's dead body was found as the place where they had frequented as their hideout for indulging in marijuana. It is reported that they still decline of any involvement in this crime, in the presence of the police.
