Student and accomplice suspected of Seya Sandewmi's murder .... remanded until 28th
The Advanced Level class student and another who were residing in a neighbouring house have been taken into police custody in connection
with the child murder of Seya Sandewmi of Kotadeniyawa, Gampaha which incident created a sensation and were produced at Minuwangoda Courts this evening (19) after which they were ordered to be remanded until the next 28th. The police say that the two of them were able to be cordoned after the investigations regarding the murder was handed over to the CID.One of these young men of 17 years who was supposed to frequent the victim's house often happens to be a student following the Commerce Stream in a popular school in Gampaha Area. The other who is said to be a friend of his named Kelum Attanayaka is from the same area and is a 33 year old person.
After the villagers in the area revealed that the two of them who had been notorious in the area had been moving about in the nights in gangs and had been engaging in vice the police had developed a suspicion about them and it was reported that both of them were highly addicted to marijuana. At the time the student was taken into custody, the police were able to take into their custody a large number of indecent blue films saved in the laptop in his possession.
On the night of the crime, the police suspect if the two of them had come in secret and committed this offence and when they were interrogated after taking them into police custody it was revealed that they in fact been connected to the crime and as such it had been necessary for the police to detain them for further investigations regarding them. These two persons had to be arrested last night after questioning them in relation to the incident of the murder of the child Seya Sadewmi.
The Minuwangoda Magistrate, Mr. Ruwan Pathirana today ordered that they be remanded until the next 28th. The police have made the necessary arrangements to obtain DNA Reports regarding the incident and the blood samples of the suspects too would be examined accordingly.
