Video of story where Minister Champika Ranawaka ...
had insulted Supreme Courts ...and lawsuit filed against him
Three Attorneys-at-Law have filed a petition with the Supreme Courts saying that Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has uttered a malicious, derogatory statement against the Supreme Court at a meeting held during the General Election period.
As stated in the petition Mr. Ranawaka has made this statement in the first rally where he launched his political propaganda campaign at Battaramulla ApeGama premises. A compact disc too has been attached to the petition yesterday saying that his statement has even been broadcast over news across the 'Derana' Rupavahini Channel on July 26, 2015. The petitioners point out that from that news item that it was a statement made with a malicious tone which contributes to insult.
In the portion where Mr. Ranawaka's statement is contained in the broadcast by 'Derana' Channel, it is stated thus:
"In a country where fifty thousand of our people die of mouth cancer ... if he can buy this cigarette mafia for money ... it's justified that for the public in this country to remove him by any method. We say .... there are still in the Supreme Courts certain judges who talk in lawsuits where they safeguard the Human Rights of groups of people who gave money to terrorists but keep them away from custody and instead let people be murdered. We tell all those judges that we are ready to bring all of you before the public judiciary which is higher than the Supreme Court".
This petition was consolidated through Attorney-at-Law Mr. Aruna V. Pathiranaarachchi for Attorneys-at-Law, Messrs. Roshan Devind Ranaweera, Ranjith Ranasingha and Nimal Weerakkody. Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, the IGP and Attorney-General have been named as respondents in this petition according to the Constitution 165 (3), it has been mentioned. The date for calling the case has still not been specified.
