The Member of Parliament of UPFA for the Ratnapura district Ranjith Soysa has made a confession that in the near future a group
of around 50 UPFA Members would be informing that they will not corporate with the national government and are hoping to from an independent group within the opposition in the parliament.

When the new group is formed this group would be the party within the parliament having the largest majority. Hence they could propose the name of Kumara Welgama to become the leader of the opposition displacing TNA leader Sambandan.
Although the central committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party had agreed a legal document to support the national government concept, according to the election manifesto of the party such a clause has not been included.
