Wimal has been detained for close upon 80 days for charges of misuse of state-owned vehicles; but he has refused to accept guilt to such an allegation and on the contrary what he says constantly is that since others too are guilty of this offence, it is unjustified that only he is penalised in this case. Parallel to Wimal's fast, his 2 children too had gone on hunger-strike. But Sashi Weeravansha has continued with her meals as usual.
Wimal's pleas to the Colombo Supreme Court to grant him bail by pointing out factors such as his children's exams and their starvation was rejected while his plea had been postponed until the 3rd of next month when it would be subjected to consideration. It will be decided on that date as to what extent Wimal's action of fasting of challenging the court order would be accepted.
Prior to this, Wimal Weeravansha engaged in a fast against Ban Ki Moon near the UN office at Thummulla Junction during Mahinda Rajapaksa's regime and managed to acquire some popularity; but abandoned the fast without any response at all from Ban Ki Moon after Mahinda Rajapaksa fed him with a drink of king coconut.
