Anuki, daughter of senior lecturers achieves rank one at O/L ... had gone only for Sinhala tuition!

More details of students of both sexes who secured first, second and third rankings according to results of O/L released today have been received by now. Anuki Chamathka Pasqual who was placed first at the GCE Examination this time is not a student who entered Visakha College from the scholarship exam. In fact she had been following her education in that school from grade 1. Whatever it is, she had sat for the scholarship exam and has secured 173 marks. Her mother is a Senior Lecturer
at the Open University in the Bio stream while her father is a Senior Lecturer at Moratuwa University.

This is what Anuki said about her achievement: "I never thought that I'd become first. I attended tuition tuition classes for Sinhala Language only. It was in school that I acquired all the knowledge. A lot of time is spent on extra classes ... and because of that there's not sufficient time to engage in studies.

What I have to say is that work given in school must be properly carried out ... should follow what teachers tell ... then can go towards achievement. I hope to follow A/L from the Maths stream. I like to enter university and become an Engineer.

Samindu Manthilini of Kandy Mahamaya Balika College who clinched second place spoke about her achievement in this manner. "My future hope is to go forward in the Science stream and become a doctor. What I tell those who are facing the exam this year is that if work given daily is done every day ... without any fear you can achieve a big victory".

It was Sugath Sanindu Sathwara of Ananda College who was ranked third position together with another student. He had this to say: "I did my daily work that day itself ... attended school daily. I rejoice in this victory because I worked without any big pressure".

The other student who was placed third was Dimuth Oshada Mirissage of Rahula College. This is what he said: "I like my studies. I engaged in extra-curricular activities just as much as I did in my studies. I was able to be successful in competitions too and in a big way. My future hope is to study in the Bio-science stream and become a medical consultant".
