Gem merchant Nimal Pathirana found collapsed by roadside!
Famous gem businessman Nimal Pathirana who was the subject of a sensation because of his disappearance some days back was ultimately found last evening (30) fallen by a roadside approximately a kilometer away from Kalubowila Hospital from where he was missing.
Mr. Pathirana disappeared last 23rd while under treatment in hospital and 3 police teams were
deployed to search for him. It is believed that he was not in a proper state of mind and would have been suffering from loss of memory and under such a condition he may have loitered on the roads and finally had collapsed being infirm and not being able to secure something as food. What people in the neighbourhood say is that this person who was found seated by the roadside during the past few days was thought of as a mendicant. Some people have even offered him food; but have been unable to extract any information from him because he was not clear in his pronunciation and suffered a faint memory as such. This was revealed at the dialogue that took place between Kohuwala Police and the neighbours concerned. At the time he collapsed on the road with a very weak memory the neighbours had helped him and the police were informed and after the police engaged in an inquiry it came to be known that this person was none other than the missing Mr. Nimal Pathirana who had disappeared last week. By now he has been readmitted to Kalubowila Hospital and is being treated. The last stages of Mr. Nimal Pathirana who in fact rendered a pioneer service in promoting Sri Lanka's gem industry all across the globe being subjected to illness and face an insecure situation such as this has surprised some people. Readers who made comments on the previous new item have expressed their utter surprise for Mr. Nimal Pathirana who has several children from two marriages being admitted to a government hospital instead of a private hospital. Yet another question that surfaces is as he is not in a sound frame of mind and prone to walk about in that state why no interest or action is taken to post someone to assist and look after him.
At the time he was in a satisfactory state of mind Mr. Nimal Pathirana had earned merit by donating the most number of Buddha statues to viharas in the island.
