'Yala Chandiya' Nandimithra's trunk gets entangled in a tusk and ends up in a mess
The elephant Nandimithra who is popular among many as an elephant who attacks vehicles in the surrounding area of the Yala Park Sathalupawwa has got its trunk stuck in a tusk recently and has been unable to remove it from the grip ... thus ending in a mess.
The Wild Life officers who had noticed the manner in
which the elephant has been keeping its trunk folded all day long have been able to understand the situation. The end part of elephant Nandimithra's trunk has got entangled for about a length of 8 inches around its nostrils and under these circumstances it is not in a state of eating anything. As a solution to this predicament the Wild Life officers and the Veterinary Surgeons have after about 2 hours with great effort been successful in removing the elephant's trunk from the tusk carefully after using anaesthesia on the animal. It was said that if the animal remained in that condition for a few more days it would have died.Elephant Nandimithra is reported to have attacked 107 vehicles during last year alone and is an animal which is prominent to have pulled out travelling bags of tourists and causing many problems like even swallowing them up.
