Chamara who killed 'Udammita Samare' ... apprehended! Murdered because of 20 lakhs debt

The chief suspect Chamara connected to the incident of shooting and killing underworld leader 'Udammita Samare' when travelling in a vehicle in Veyangoda recently was taken into custody by Peliyagoda Crimes Division yesterday (3). This murder was committed over a dispute connected to a cash deal while remaining as a confederate of the
former involving himself in criminal activities, drinking and eating in the company of Samare.

The motor cycle used in the murder too has been taken into police custody. Chamara the chief suspect who was arrested for having killed Udammita Samare over a money deal confessed to police that he had shot and killed Udammita Samare over such a dispute. Another suspect allied to this murder, a T56 weapon, a pistol and a Wessel-type jeep are expected to be taken into custody. It was possible to take this main suspect into custody on a tip off received by Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. H. Samudrajiva of the Peliyagoda Crimes Division after which an operation was launched in Veyangoda Naiwala area.

The suspect Chamara has admitted to police that the deceased Udammita Samare had taken a sum of Rs. 20 lakhs from him and that the latter had evaded paying it for a number of years. The suspect also said that on each and every occasion he had tried to get this money, Samare had threatened him and members of his family with death. The main suspect had finally revealed and confessed to police that for this reason in order to take revenge on Samare he had killed Samare.
