Speaker Karu opens Centre for helpless cancer patients on ... behalf of deceased daughter
Mrs. Indira Jayasuriya, a daughter of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya passed away from cancer most unfortunately at a comparatively young age sometime ago leaving the public around the world talking about the tragedy and the Centre dedicated on her behalf under the name Pilika
Sarana Bharaya instituted by the Speaker was declared open yesterday at Maharagama Cancer Hospital.In order to find solace if one was to hear news about someone afflicted with cancer or for one's ownself and to avail of an advisory service the No. 0112363211 could be dialled and this opportunity is available daily from 7 in the morning till 7 in the night, free of charge. 'Pilika Sarana Bharaya' operates under three projects and its first phase is in motion as 'Pilika Sarana Emathum Sevava'. The rest of the projects are 'Indira Upakaraka Sevaya' and 'Indira Jayasuriya Lama Sathkaraka Sevaya' which would be launched in future. It was said that in order to detect breast cancer in its initial stages a Mammography machine would be installed and the 'Indira Upakaraka Sevaya' would first be set in motion after which this machine will be distributed on a regional and district level.
The above-mentioned service was launched with efforts contributed by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and members of his family taking prominence with 'Pilika Sarana Sangamaya' in unison and it is of special interest to note that British national Mr. Martin Dicker, Mrs. Indira Jayasuriya's husband, her children and members of the family were observed present on this occasion.
