Rumours that X'mas Tree built in Sri Lanka is not the world's biggest ... proved false!

Rumours that X'mas Tree built in Sri Lanka is not the world's biggest ... proved false!

The Christmas tree which was created at Galle Face Green, Colombo by Arjuna Ranatunga social welfare league was opened yesterday and a debate has cropped up whether it really is the world's tallest Christmas Tree. So far no approval has been received by Guinness Records; but it has been included in the waiting list.

Though the constructors at the commencement said that it would be erected at a height of 325 feet, the height at its completion was 238 feet. As such they had to forego 87 feet. The reason for this
difference was the temporary withdrawal of construction by the religious Head. After the difference of this height and on completion of the structure Minister Arjuna has issued an announcement to the media saying that this effort would go on to establish the Guinness Record as the 'World's biggest Artificial Christmas Tree'.

According to Guinness Records Website information the following records have been listed in various ways about Christmas Trees already established:

The world's biggest Christmas Tree structure -- 419.91 feet in height / decoration bulbs 28344 (a creation of Energisa Serjip of Serjip, Brazil 2009).

The world's biggest floating Christmas Tree -- 278 feet 10 inches in height / decoration bulbs 2.8 million / floating on a rope 37 kms. in length. (a creation of Bradesco Segrus of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2007).

The world's biggest artificial Christmas Tree -- 180.4 feet in height / 69 metres in circumference / 22 metres wide. (a creation of Think Big Clutcher, Gunzow, China 2015).

The world's tallest cut Christmas Tree -- 221 feet in height. (a creation of Douglas Fir, Washington, America 1950).

As such, the Christmas Tree which was opened yesterday in Sri Lanka would clinch the Guinness Record for having modernized the Christmas Tree coming under the classification of 'world's biggest artificial Christmas Tree' quoted as the third, going beyond it when considering the height of 238 feet and some other aspects. Though the initially targeted height became less as a result of obstructions during process of erection, the creators have been successful in moving beyond the already recorded height.

An organisation by the name of The Catholic Expression has released an announcement to the media without considering the multiplicity of the relevant records arguing that the Christmas Tree constructed in Sri Lanka is not the tallest by comparing it with only the category 'world's biggest artificial Christmas Tree'. Given below is the Guinness Records Page of classification for which Sri Lanka competed:
