President questions as to what happened to Rs 401 billion given to the Nilwala project
Addressing a meeting in Galle on the day before yesterday the 26th instant President Maithripala Sirisena had wanted to know what had happened to the money released in the year 2012 and on the day before the day before the presidential election a sum of rupees four hundred and one billion from the treasury saying for the Nilwala project.He had said that it is in this regard it is needed questioning
the people on this matter.He had said this addressing the gathering at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party development project meeting at the Galle town hall.
The President had asked has this project launched? At least has the work commenced with digging earth with at least a mamotie? Where is this money and who has swindled them? Have the money returned to the treasury?The money has been by cheque to the secretary of the irrigation ministry. After that no one knows what had happened to the cheque.President had said this is public money.
President had added further that he had received all the correspondence details from the treasury.The Mahaweli project had commenced with a Chinese Company in year 2012 .An initial payment of rupees million 1000 via a cheque.The day prior to the presidential election on the 07th January 2015 the second cheque had been issued for rupees 3012 million. The total amount has been rupees 4012 million.
In this regard the president had questioned which ministry had worked on this day before the presidential election? This amount is over rupees 400 billion.President had asked what right has the officers to issue a cheque for Rupees 3012 million on this day.? Likewise the President had questioned left and right.
