Cigarettes banned to be sold within 500 metre radius of schools - Rajitha
Attending to a workshop conducted by the authorities of the National Authority for Tobacco and Alcohol i a proposal has been brought by the Minister of Heath Rajitha Senaratne to prohibit the manufacture, distribution and marketing cigarettes
within a radius of 500 metres of schools island wide. It is reported that at present all liquor shops in the vicinity of schools have been banned.It is reported that the sale of cigarettes close to schools would be totally prohibited.
The Minister had further said that arecanut and chunam are essential for our culture.As owing to consuming and chewing them it has contributed to the dreaded cancer decease.Hence against the arecanut and chunam usage steps would be taken in due course.
