Malik Samarawickrema accused of cheating 1000 million from Mahapola trust fund.
A group of members of the joint opposition have complained the police financial crimes division and the bribery and corruption commission on the 23rd instant against the Minister of International trade Malik Samarawickrema for alleged misappropriation and making loses of a sum of rupees 1000 million from the Mahapola Trust fund. The group of joint opposition members of parliament who had lodged this complaint were Sisira Jayakody,Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena,Piyal Nishantha and
Wimalweera Dissanayake.It is reported that for this loss the Minister of Internal trade should be held responsible.This had been disclosed by member of parliament Sisira Jayakody at a media beefing held at the Dr NM Perera foundation on the 23rd instant before the complaint was handed over.
Adding further the member of parliament had this to say:
" The Mahapola Trust fund had been held under the ministry of trade.Malik Samarawickrema had taken the Mahapola Trust fund under his ministry.Afterwards the authority to disbursement of funds had been handed over to a institution who are primary dealers in the stock market and bonds where the owner is Wickrema Weerasuriya
Two of Wickrema Weerasuriya's sons are directors of the Company to which funds are released from the Mahapola Trust fund.It is reported that from the funds invested the Mahapola development fund has incurred a loss of rupees 1000 million."
