Beer party at Ambalangoda Prajapathi Gothami Girls' School ... caught high and dry!
10 Ordinary Level students of a leading Balika school, Ambalangoda Prajapathi Gothami Vidyalaya in the Southern Province have been suspended from classes over an incident of having enjoyed a beer party inside a classroom on World Children's Day which fell on last 1st, it is reported.
One student among the students who was enjoying the beer during a time when their class teacher
was not present had accidentally spilled her beer can and it resulted in the whole classroom smelling of beer and this situation was noted by the teacher who came in next to conduct her class. In order to cover up the behaviour of the students who danced the devil in the classroom after the bout of beer the Principal of this balika school had strived to make amends. However because of the complaints made by the staff and parents of students to related disciplinary parties, the provincial education authorities had interwined and had meted out the aforementioned punishment, it is reported. These students had got down 13 cans of beer from a hotel in Ambalangoda town and subsequently had begun partaking in the fun around 10.30 that morning inside the grade 11 classroom and in the process a beer can in the hands of a particular student who was 'high' had accidentally dropped on the floor and it is understood that as a consequence the entire classroom had been enveloped with the odour of beer. The teacher who entered the classroom after a short while to have her class had smelt the rat and on enquiring this situation she had been able to find the used 11 empty beer cans stuck to sticks on the fence of the adjoining the classroom concerned.
All comments of the students were recorded by the teacher on her mobile phone and this complaint was forwarded to the Principal later. But the response the teacher received as a result was simply a blagarding in return which she never dreamed of. The students who partook at this beer party were summoned to the Principal's room and subsequently the advice she had given the students was that if this scene came into the ears of outsiders it would be relayed across the media. "This is an utter disgrace to the whole school. If anybody was to ask you'll , tell that person that you'll didn't drink beer ... that you'll drank some soft drinks inside the cans". But neither the previously mentioned teacher nor the staff of teachers had agreed to this. Their opinion on the other hand was that if the other children were to be brought up well, these culprits would have to be punished. It was after that they had taken steps to complain about this incident to the Ambalangoda Education Zone office getting together with the parents. After the enquiries, the 10 students involved were suspended from classes from Monday October 17th.
