Lunch sheets and 'regiform' boxes prohibited-instead leaves
In order as a step to minimize environmental pollution laws have been enacted to completely prohibit the use of polythene sheets and rigifoam boxes that are used in markets. These laws have been given the green light by the President.
This has been conveyed by the Director of southern province central environmental authority HS
Premachandra. This was said at a meeting held at the auditorium of the Galle divisional secretariat. As an initial step the manufacture, distribution and marketing of wrapping paper (lunch sheets) and 'regifoam' boxes have been completely banned.
It is reported that when such materials are banned it is natural for the businessmen to resort to alternate ways. For example in India from leaves of trees they have designed a plate like structure which could be used for two weeks before they decay.
Likewise in our country also there are environment friendly alternatives. Our people do not think of such devices was what the authorities of the central environmental authority believe.
Of course it is reported that only polythene that are over 20 microns thickness could be used for lunch packets. In this regard the authorities of the central environmental authority will raid places where inferior and polythene s below 20 micron thickness are sold.
