Doctors play 'night role' asking that their children be given the best schools!

Doctors play 'night role' asking that their children be given the best schools!

A number of about 200 government doctors from Matara, Kurunegala and Kandy Districts have staged a protest from yesterday upto today voicing their opinion about the inconveniences they were called to face in the instance of admitting their children to school. The doctors had engaged in this
protest by breaking rest last night at Battaramulla Isurupaya.

Their allegation is that the government had not helped them in admitting their children to recognised schools. They therefore say that the children are schooling in ordinary schools in those areas at the moment as a result and their argument is that their children deserve only the recognised schools when considering their (doctors) status. They had decided to engage in a token strike today (15) too.

The Association of Government Medical Officers had approached the Ministry of Education yesterday (14) demanding that their children be provided popular schools and had wanted a confrontation with the Minister of Education and because there was a delay in granting the request, the doctors are still found remaining at Isurupaya premises until it was fulfilled. What the Secretary of the Government Medical Association said was that this strike is being launched in protest of issues faced by doctors in admitting their children to schools and that doctors of government hospitals of Kurunegala, Kandy and Matara Districts have decided to launch a token strike today from 8 in the morning to 12 in the afternoon for 4 hours. This in fact is the first occasion where a large number of doctors from an external establishment have staged a protest by breaking rest.
