Schoolboy who hacked President's website to postpone Advanced Level Exam
A person who subjected the President's official website (president.gov.lk) to a process of hacking last Friday had made certain comments of a threatening nature so that anybody who had access to it was able to see them. A protest against conducting the Advanced
Level Examination in April next year was among the issues against which the protest was aimed at.This hacking process had continued twice within the space of two days and the police who engaged in an investigation in this connection were able to detect the IP address relevant to this activity and thus were successful in taking the culprit to custody. What ultimately surprised them was that it was a school student who was living in Kadugannawa and still pursuing his studies for the Advanced Level at his school. It was later revealed that this schoolboy who was studying at a leading boys' school in Kandy had engaged in this form of hacking, as is for fun.
The motive as to why he was involved in hacking the President's Website is still being inquired into and a surveillance in underway to determine whether it was done with a political aim in mind or simply for the fun of it. The Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana has mentioned that the arrested student is being brought to Colombo for further interrogation purposes. According to legal provisions which deals with allegations in respect of computers, legal action is expected to be taken against the suspect and the Computer Emergency Response Team too has commenced an inquiry in this connection.
