The 9 contestants attending 2016 Olympics .... meet the President
Sri Lankan players of both sexes are expected to compete by representing Sri Lanka at the 2016 Olympic Sports Festival which is scheduled to be held next month in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. They had booked their berth by qualifying
themselves in 8 events such as the Marathon (men and women), Javelin Throw (men), Badminton, Judo, Weight -lifting, Swimming and Shooting. This local contingent is anticipating to bring honour to the mother land and a stamp was issued as a souvenir on their behalf after blessings conferred on them when they met the President Maithripala Sirisena at the President's Official Residence yesterday (21). The Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekera, Minister of Postal Services Abdul Haleem and authorities such as Mr. Hemasiri Fernando, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee joined on this occasion.
