Cluster of Doctors to migrate as their children have no schools
The related authorities of the Government Medical Officers Association have informed that a cluster of doctors who have returned from overseas after postgraduate studies and those who have received transfer orders have decided to migrate to foreign countries as they have no schools to admit their children.
The secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association Dr Nalin Herath had added that in this regard there is a conflict situation that would arise when consultant doctors are assigned to outstation
hospitals. At a media briefing held on the 14th instant the secretary of the association Dr Nalinda Herath had added that every four years doctors are transferred and several consultant doctors are returning to the country after postgraduate studies.
The secretary Dr Nalinda Herath had added that according to the circulars issued by the ministry of education the parents should prove that they have lived at a place for more than five years. Hence those returning from overseas after obtaining postgraduate qualifications would not be able to show such a residency requirement.
In this regard as the authorities of the ministries of education and health have not adopted a coordinated endeavour the doctors who are transferred are reluctant to take up new appointments owing to the schooling problems of their children. This was added by Dr Nalinda Herath at the media briefing.
