WHO ARE THOSE WHO ARE CALLED 'CORRUPTEd?' NO SUCH PEOPLE ARE WITH US ...
ALL THOSE CONVICTED AS NOT GUILTY CAN BE GIVEN NOMINATIONS
- ANURA PRIYADARSHANA
Giving nominations to former MPs and Ministers whose names were tarnished as being corrupted when it comes
to the matter of giving nominations has now become a controversial matter. Political sources reveal that the bulk of them being from the Mahinda segment of which 20 such names have been identified and therefore nominations are withheld from them has caused unpleasantness from that faction and the crisis of the SLFP Alliance nominations issue still exists. Therefore, what now has become a problem is not whether former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to be given nominations or not but whether the said group would not receive nominations, as reported. Informed sources say that the former President is decisive on that point. It was also said that various arguments have surfaced from that segment that without them the forthcoming election cannot we won. Whatever it is, the existence of a nomination crisis is on the cards and it would turn out to be favourable for the UNP while Susil Premajayantha and Anura Priyadarshana the former Ministers are seen to be trying their best efforts to give an impression to the media that there is no such thing. Since President Maithripala is seen displaying a dormant attitude on this matter, the true situation in this issue remains under cover. The former MP Anura Priyadarshana has made the following remarks at a media briefing held this morning with regard to this issue:
"That word what you say as 'corrupted' is a problem to us. A person doesn't become a 'corrupted' person because a court case in relation to that allegation is being inquired into, isn't it? He should be proved guilty from such a case. Therefore it's wrong to say that former MPs and Ministers of our Party are to be identified by the word as being 'corrupted'. As such, just because one has allegations against his name, we can't make him guilty. We even can't neglect them and refuse nominations being given to them".
